What is this, any record made before 1988 is considered "Electro" by default? ESG - a family of sisters (and one brother) who were all around 16 or so at the time - made minimalist Funk. "UFO" is minimalist Funk. "Moody" is minimalist Funk. I've never seen that track on a compilation (but yes, I have heard it sampled a zillion times), but then I wouldn't have noticed - I have all the ESG records sitting in my closet somewhere :-) (Speaking of "labels, where have they gone" ... ESG's label was 99 Records, run by Ed Bahlmann (sp?) in New York. The Bush Tetras were labelmates. I wonder what happened to Ed, the store - 99 Records was a store first - and his label ... ) Strange But True: ESG opened for Public Image, Ltd. at the Pasadena Convention Center in Nov. 1982 ... (the other night was Savage Republic; great shows, but alas, Wobble had left by then ... ) - Greg
