I'm not sure if this was meant as a negative comment (that is,
Advance can't be compared to Frequencies; the latter is majestic and
things can't really be done any better :), but I still can't
help being a bit disappointed with "Advance". The overall sound of
the record is *very* clean, and I kind of miss the grunge (!?) that
first made their sound (a sound that Tied Up - a track of pure
excellence, by the way - sort of maintains). Too many tracks on
Advance sound too familiar - I know I've heard it all before -
and some of their textures are nothing more than your average ambient
wishy-washy.
Not to say there aren't any good tracks on it, and it may be that five
years of waiting has made me expect too much, but the overall
feeling, as I said, is that of disappointment.
