Although I realise Hardfloor is (pretty mindless) trance/techo and
not IDM, I am captivated by a track called "Alternative" on their cd
"Funalogue" and thought someone else might have heard it as well.
It's as if they took one of the melodies hidden in the layers of a
Steve Reich piece (or, even more so, Terry Riley's Poppy Nogood
saxaphone loops) and added the usual frantic techno beats to it.
But the drum beats are off the beat of the melody loop and it is an
amazing feeling.
It's mimimalism meets acid. And nothing else they've done comes
close to being this interesting.
