I just got my copy of Deep Space by Juan Atkins, and it's very
good. Detroit techno at best. I was really a little put off by
Carl Craig's and Kenny Larkin's last releases, but Atkins keeps
the Detroit sound alive and well. There are two tracks that so
much resemble the Basic Channel sound that made me wonder if he
had any hands in any of the BC releases. Two tracks also feature
vocals, one of a soul like female voice and another a male one.
The one with the male voices I've heard before and I think is
just a re-release. The other vocal track is very good. Some great
lush synth sounds, with sweeping filters all over, can be found
on some of the tracks and they just sound so good. A very fine
release on R&S, get it.
