I've read a whole bunch about UFO lately because they've just released the
follow-up (someting with "Taboo" in the title) to the album you mention,
which I also have but is at work at the moment. UFO also have an album before
the one you heard, which contains a much heralded track, "The Silent
Minority." [There's also a Greyboy track, "Panacea," I believe, that uses the
"Silent Majority" sample.]
UFO produce some really tight jazz/bossa nova/swing, etc., but it's
all so glisteningly clean -- very Japanese style (two Japanese guys and one
English bloke = UFO). I like the CD I got by UFO, but I doubt I'll seek out
the others.
If you dig the new jazz, you can do no wrong buying the Acid Jazz
comps in the Totally Wired series: I just got Number 11, and it smokes. I'd
also recommend the Cookin' series on the Ubiquity label, though it leans
toward the traditional tip. I've seen some Japanese-oriented comps in
Instinct's This Is Acid Jazz series. The Ninja Tune stuff by Coldcut and
9Lazy9 is also worth checking out.
