I bought Daniel Pemberton's "BEDROOM" FAX CD just last night.. a bit
reluctant myself but curious nonetheless. On first impression, I love it!
This is one of the best FAX CDs to come out yet I think. It's what I *wish*
Future Sound of London or the Orb had done.
I find it hard to describe a lot of ambient music but...
it does start out a bit experimental and clunky and gets more into
atmospheres & textures. He samples quite a bit... it sort of reminded me a
bit of the recent FFWD album but better. At a couple of points I heard a
guitar and "real drums" which gave a bit of a rock n'roll effect, and I
thought, WHAT!??? but they didn't last very long and they certainly got me
thinking. There's a bit of every genre and it's all quite creative and
imaginative, I give him credit for that. It traverses all different moods,
from very uplifting & happy in the middle to very dark and industrial
towards the very end... yet it all flows together very well. I guess his
creativity hasn't been stifled by adulthood.
I must say, I'm impressed with this kid. What's his story anyway? I hear
he's a 16 year old that used to be on R&S I think??? I look forward to
hearing this one a lot more and hopefully more new stuff in the future!
