A few people are mentioning picks of the year in their posts and I
started to think it may be an idea to have an end of year poll.
Providing no-one already runs this type of thing I am willing to
administrate if it is thought to be worthwhile.
The main benefits I can see are as follows:
1) It's a bit a fun.
2) People on the list who have limited funds or find it difficult to
obtain idm would have a source of 'No-Risk' purchases.
3) By making the results available to more mainstream sources /
publications (eg in UK NME/MixMag) we could maybe introduce more people
to the idm genre by presenting the pick of what, for a newcomer, can be a
bewildering array of music. 4) Even if you have a big collection of music
there's always those one or two quality releases you miss. A poll like
this gives you the chance to backtrack at the end of the year and pick up
on those things.
5) We could maybe even try and release a poll-winners EP !
I would see categories including IDM Album Of the Year (OTY), Chill Out
Album OTY, Compilation OTY, Remix OTY, Performance OTY, Pick for 95, idm
moment OTY....

will then summarise to the list. Depending on the reaction I would intend
to post the poll entry form within the next week.
