OK Here's what I think... Yeah there's going to be less females on the list cos Internet is mainly male. And maybe less females than males buy IDM, but then again its the same sort of thing with most, if not all, types of music. One thing I notice is that females may well go to a club and like the music, but lack the (lets admit it!) anal motivation to go to the DJ and ask what records he's playing etc... ie males have a tendency to get really deep into things. For example at the Serve Chilled night I ran here at Brunel there were slightly more females than males present... which is surprising considering Brunel has a 65-35 male-female ratio. Some girls I was speaking to were metallers, indie-fans etc that claimed to love the ambient music (having just been converted from ambient-haters) but they didnt ask me for a list of 12"s or an EG discography or anything! Thats the difference... Also, as for the "What will we be listening to when we're 50?" thing... IDM is unique in that almost all the producers are very young... under 30, so I expect their music will mature as the listeners do, and I may well still be listening to Nuron and Stasis in 30 years time! _And_, because IDM is so varied (from Acid music to ambient) we wont view IDM as either pretentious artwank _or_ throwaway cack when we're old. Thats all I can think of to say! :) Bye! Brendan Nelson Kinetic Illusion at 19, perhaps the youngest IDMer?
