i have to now include the new deru album on merck. after owning it since saturday night i have to say it kills the last one (which i like a lot) and is probably my favorite IDM album of this year. i should give honorable mention to the proem live MD. i know several on this list (including me i think) have damned it with faint praise, but it is IDM and it is good. i think i will also have to pick up the latest wolf eyes on sub pop. the pandatone album is a definite must have, which i foolishly didn't buy at the tonic show. also sounding very interesting is the shugo album on music-related, pandatone's own label. the sad thing about a lot of independent music is so much of it doesn't get to make yearly top tens because it takes so long to filter through and get heard and bought by people, the year's over before someone discovers it. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

(sorry about the last post) that's exactly why i don't post tops of the year lists. Most of the music i listen to is either 2 or 3 years old. I also believe that's part of the reason why so many releases get lost in the shuffle, as if it's not talked about in the first year of release, it doesn't get talked about after that. A tops of 2002-04 would work much better for me personally, but most people seem to be caught up in the now rather than the best. There's so many new releases and new labels that to get a good indication of what are people's favourite releases are, you'd need 2 years at least for most people to get a proper 'tops' list. Portis the sad thing about a lot of independent music is so much of it doesn't get to make yearly top tens because it takes so long to filter through and get heard and bought by people, the year's over before someone discovers it. d. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

True - I guess you could look at it as "Top music I heard/discovered in 2004" that way it can include the gems from 1996 etc. I lot of the music that I discovered and played on StaticBeats was released in the past 2-5 years. When the request for top 10 came out on the list I had to filter out all the stuff from years past. Hey...having been on this list for too long to remember... My feelings are that I am just loving hearing about what idm list members regard as sound artists worth checking out. The "Year End" titling is just a formality giving our list a general sense of time and good for search terms in google and email inboxes. (I will offer my best at the end of this week ;-) -wnf --- StaticBeats <stupidnametaken@yahoo.com> wrote:

Yes, and i'm sure this is one of the reasons why you consistently get a lot of listeners. I remember seeing Proem's "Negativ" as part of your update & thinking "Yes!" (it's my favourite Proem). I'm sure a lot of people have discovered a lot of older stuff through your show, but at the same time there's a likely chance the newest from CCO, Neo Ouija or Merck will pop up on your list as well. Portis I lot of the music that I discovered and played on StaticBeats was released in the past 2-5 years.
