anybody present ever get into Phthalocyanine? His cd-r label Phthalo preceding the Planet Mu releases had a massive impact on me in 1998/99. Felt like as big a deal as Schematic and Chocolate Industries (as far as USA IDM) around that time, most of the artists he put out early on in their careers are titans now-- James Kirby/Caretaker, Dntel, Vladislav Delay just for starters-- check out that discogs <https://www.discogs.com/artist/500-Phthalocyanine?srsltid=AfmBOoqMi2Eb_7l7Y0YNQBnYCAXITqGwH6D7p-mKf7ONy3QUxmlaG282> page. Follow-up question: anybody follow his instagram page now? -rk

ah yeah! I knew them through Chris Douglas/OST/Dalglish/Rook Valard releases. Looking at the discogs page, i remember a bunch of other good ones too - the Sistol release, Wobbly, and Tu M'. Boomkat has a bunch of the Phthalocyanine releases - this one sounds ace: https://boomkat.com/products/viridian-ep-ed-2 On Sun, Aug 24, 2025 at 3:56 AM Rjyan Kidwell <cexwell@gmail.com> wrote:

* Phthalocyanine – absolutely killer stuff, disorienting blast of distorted overdrummed mayhem. Re-listen to it from time to time, i went through his discography a three years ago, and was planning to dive into the Phthalo catalog, but got distracted. Thanks for the reminder!Pretty sure I once used one of his tracks in a story or a post with some industrial visuals, but had no idea he was actually on Instagram 👀 (@sashaowl if you're curious)* On Sun, 24 Aug 2025 at 13:56, Rjyan Kidwell <cexwell@gmail.com> wrote:

I remember him doing a show - maybe with DAT Politics? - at the Rickshaw stop in SF, probably 2006 or 07. Storming, mega intense maximalism. The last Planet Mu release was banging - still sounded pretty good when I relistened yesterday. I sent him a message probably right before COVID to see if I could book him for a live set and never heard back. I've been in LA for 7 years now and haven't heard about him playing - he lived here at least when he was doing the label. I remember his more dancefloor focused Halo Cyan label popping up on my radar around 2012. His IG is pretty impenetrable; philosophy-grad-damage shit posting? Yeah, not to fart in the hot tub here but that's kinda what I was hoping to get some background on. Is it sketch for me to smash the like on these posts? In the context of an avant garde music producer, it's unique and exciting, but I hope this isn't too rude to say out loud but in the context of instagram, the sheer volume of these posts make me wonder if there isn't a pinch of schizophrenia in the mix?
