Happy holidays errbody! My oldest son grew up learning "traditional" music in school from the 5th grade, was heavily involved with HS marching band (won best woodwind at the senior year awards ceremony), played a lot of alto saxophone solos as part of the school jazz band, etc. He never had much interest in IDM, or any electronic music, when he lived with me. And then he went off to university. A couple years ago during his sophomore year there, he ended up hearing some of SAW85-92 on Spotify, and recognized the artwork/album cover (I have it prominently displayed in my house :-) Long story short, he's been getting into some p.cool music on his own, and today turned me on to this artist Monokle, from Russia. _Tricks_ was released in 2024 and sounds pretty dope! Stylistically, I'd say it's a shade or two darker/less melodic than _Loud Ambient_ (recently discussed here), but not kilometers apart. Pretty solid IDM for the modern age. Hope you enjoy! Naturally, I referred my son to _Loud Ambient_ and back to _Temple of Transparent Balls_. I'm pretty sure he will recognize some songs from the latter, whenever he hears them again. I played that album a lot while he was growing up! Oh, and of course I told him about TBD's live recording at the Black Lodge. Funny side note: he was over last night for our family holiday celebration, was writing a letter to his gf, and went digging through a drawer looking for an envelope. He found a B&W laser printout I made several few years -- with many small copies of the iconoic Aphex logo on a single page. I explained how I had used a couple of those to make my own stickers with packing tape (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XFGRIPBkpc). Naturally, he asked if he could take a couple copies of the image for himself, haha.
