This is due to the the fact that he stopped writing FOR CMJ and started writing to get press on the stuff he REALLY likes. Back when he covered UNDERWORLD I recall talking to him. Our conversation tacked steadfast into an UNDERWORLD trash fest. (respect to darren, but, dubdidnotdothisbassheadin) When I protested to Tim that he should write about the stuff that REALLY whips his fingers out snappin, he agreed. Hence the change. Since I have known Tim he has always displayed attention to the TRUE sounds of the underground. You can hear him spin RARE GROOVE, FUNK,and mad shit like the incredible bongo band, in Boston, at the Linwood Grille on Kilmarnock St. near Fenway. Chicago is nothing new to Tim. His record collection is incredible. and incredibly DIVERSE and right now some solid experimental funky stuff comes from CHItown. In fact, this little foray into chicago dance music may even cost him THE JOB. He openly wondered how long CMJ will go before the heavies lean on the dance column, and in turn lean on Tim. That's all, Teep He used to cover a lot of crappy progressive house records, as well as some ambient music, hard acid, and hardcore. I maintain that most of the music he reviewed, I just didn't like, but at least his range was broader. Now it seems as though he's sticking to Chicago and Detroit artists and their ideological counterparts overseas. What's worse is that he glorifies each release with such verbose language that I feel his reviews are misleading at best.. ..And I still think most of those records are boring.
