Hi everyone, I'm back from my summer break with a new e mail address (lw94ben@brunel.ac.uk) and I just thought I'd post something to let you know what goes on... Here's a list of the wicked records I picked up over summer: Dan Curtin LP Aural Expansions LP (on Dum) Virtual Sex (I never got it first time round) Warp69: Natural High (Global Communications remix) G.C.: 76:14 (of course!) Astral Engineering: Chronoglide MLO: Io Sunkings: Hall of Heads (classic ambience!) 2001: Never Ending Cycle (check out that bass) Phenomyna: 2 Remix EPs (Intelligent techno at its best) Nuron/Fugue: LM002 (UK intelligent techno again) ...and loads more which I forget right now! if anyone wants a review of any of these records just ask! Also, I played at the Rephlex night at Quirky on the 9th Sept, in the ambient room... that was a decent gig. I'm starting a fortnightly ambient night here at Brunel uni this Monday as well so we'll see how that goes! Anyway, I hope to hear back from some of you... Bye! As long as your volunteering- How about a few (or more!) words on each release? Have not heard a single one of them as of yet... asking the world- -thad

thad asked for some opinions on the following...
quoted 1 line Dan Curtin LP> Dan Curtin LP
Spacey intelligent techno with original song structures, you can tell Mr Curtin put a lot of time into making this album!
quoted 1 line Aural Expansions LP (on Dum)> Aural Expansions LP (on Dum)
Quite bizarre listening techno, like the Black Dog meeting Kraftwerk... some bizarre drum sounds and quirky melodies...
quoted 1 line Virtual Sex (I never got it first time round)> Virtual Sex (I never got it first time round)
Essential guide to smooth techno... exquisite tracks from Rhythim is Rhythim, Stefan Robbers, Kenny Larkin etc
quoted 1 line Warp69: Natural High (Global Communications remix)> Warp69: Natural High (Global Communications remix)
The two original tracks are a bit dull but GC drop a jazzy double-bass line and swinging hi hats, and lay on spacious strings and dreamy arpeggios... smokey jazzy coolsort of vibe...
quoted 1 line G.C.: 76:14 (of course!)> G.C.: 76:14 (of course!)
When it comes to ambient this album is a must-have... beautiful textures and timbres, some laid back beats... basically, you should own this!
quoted 1 line Astral Engineering: Chronoglide> Astral Engineering: Chronoglide
May be hard to find... Very good ambient techno CD, loads of atmospheric effects and some basslines and rhythms... samples a beat off of Paris, incidentally! Top stuff esp. if you want a CD to chill to...
quoted 1 line MLO: Io> MLO: Io
Pure ambience in the Eno sense of the word... similiar in parts to Apollo, Eno fans! check out the bassline on the 1st track... absolutely no beats or anything
quoted 1 line Sunkings: Hall of Heads (classic ambience!)> Sunkings: Hall of Heads (classic ambience!)
Sounds like Edgar Froese in places... very ambient album, very other- worldly atmosphere, very mystical... not a very hyped release but well worth checking out
quoted 1 line 2001: Never Ending Cycle (check out that bass)> 2001: Never Ending Cycle (check out that bass)
2001 do some funky detroit style techno with a groovy Moog bass line, and some deep chords too! very detroit 909 style
quoted 1 line Phenomyna: 2 Remix EPs (Intelligent techno at its best)> Phenomyna: 2 Remix EPs (Intelligent techno at its best)
Like I said, this has to be heard to be believed. Black Dog and B12 fans will Love these two... the melodies, the rhythms, the chords etc...
quoted 1 line Nuron/Fugue: LM002 (UK intelligent techno again)> Nuron/Fugue: LM002 (UK intelligent techno again)
Very cool and sophisticated techno... The Nuron side is best but all in all a very high quality 12"... There! Hope I didnt bore you! Thanks for listening...
