c'mon, the difference between Uzect Plaush and New Maps Of Hell is hardly THAT great. i like 'em both, they're both very similar. if you're so trendy that you have to buy stuff on Apollo and shun an "industrial" (ha!) label like Extreme, then so be it. [FX: a tear wells in jon's eye as he contemplates a good solid flame war with greg... How many years has it been? :) ]

idea. that's sort of true. here's my take on Muslimgauze: there are basically 3 periods. the first is the really early stuff like iran and coup d'etat. very raw, primal and pounding. good stuff, but not my favorite. the second period is the first batch on extreme: intifaxa, us of i, and zul'm. this is much better, production-wise, and for a textural, atmospheric artist like muslimgauze, it's an important factor. this is my favorite period. intifaxa is a little dull, but us of i is great: crazed rhythms. zul'm is actually fairly different: more electronic, more atmospheric, more laidback. essential listening. the last period is the soleilmoon stuff - most of this sounds pretty lazy. i like "veiled sisters" despite the fact that a lot of it sounds like machines on autopilot, but i haven't heard anything else recently that really floated my boat. i'm curious about his new batch of stuff on extreme, to see whether it sounds like the other stuff at all. so there you go. "heard one, heard 'em all" is a bit of an oversimplification... i'd make it "heard three, heard 'em all." over and out /jon

That's "Spheres." I don't know about "cashing in"... whatever the motive, the music is GREAT! I'm sorry you didn't like. For me, it's one of the Top 5 electronic albums of the year.

Well, I just got the single for "Flowers Become Screens" and the Enigma comparison is certainly apt. I'm not wild about this one. The Dossier stuff is much better, in general. Mini review: 3 mixes of the title track. first mix is straight enigma. second mix has a more housey beat with organs and 303s! third mix is a half-time reggae interpretation. last track sounds like enigma again. think i'm gonna skip this album.

for the billionth time, Oliver Leib has nothing to do with Bill Leeb. since i have this anal compulsion to weigh in on every issue, i'll just say that i've never heard anything from oliver leib that i liked. /jon
