I just got the new Omicron lp (cd) Acrocosm and it seems pretty darn good after a couple listens. It's nothing like the Symbolis EP (assuming this is the same Omicron), being much more ambient and much less trancey. The tracks are very ambient at times, with sweeping noises, throbbing basslines, and quirky little beeps! Heavy on the textures and atmospheres. Here is a track listing... Omicron - Acrocosm (Instinct Ambient) Earth Rider 7:23 Spaced Nature 3:02 Warped Upward 6:12 Lluana 10:28 Caterpillar to Butterfly 7:06 Tranquility Base 5:46 A Thousand Dyes on the Moist Earth 6:23 Orca 6:23 One Voice 5:30 Acrocosm 12:08 Total Time 70:03 I also got AI2, finally, what a bonanza! I just got that CD as well, and consider it one of the most boring ambient albums I've ever heard. About as interesting as opening the window and listening to crickets (which you can do for free). I always find this interesting, how some people can find a piece of music really interesting and others think it's more boring than watching grass grow. I guess that people just listen to different parts of the music... I also thought Autechre was just about the top of the heap when it came to AI bands, and they took a lot of flack on this list, so I guess I just have weird taste in ambience :) [fletcher]
