Any information on Moonshake? They're on too pure. The description sounded very much like Seefeel. -- Brian Hostetler http://sparrow.bio.indiana.edu/brian/me '...most of it is radical hip drug culture overload. Actually, not even close, IMHO. I'd put them closer to a "traditional" band like the Fall, with liberal use of saxophone and occasionally trumpet. Very quirky at times, but nothing that would be close to whatever IDM is these days. Now, Mouse on Mars - another Too Pure band - is supposed to be fairly ambient/IDM-ish, and they do rely on traditional "analog" instruments. like Seefeel? hmm...well, definately not like Seefeel...though i have yet to acquire the latest release. Moonshake are fabulous, if you like jazz samples and eerie li'l tunes and a whiny male lead singer and a sexy-yet-spooky female singer who whispertalks more than she actually 'sings'. it's a band with a heavy Can influence {hence the name} and they recently split up into two different groops, with the female singer/ songwriter taking the drummer and producing music under the name Laika. definately not dance music, at least not in the techno-idm-whatever scheme of things...but they are so very *good*.... *k-j*

Laika are fairly close to the IDM style (whatever that is?) - they have just released one EP, which is pretty heavily percussion- oriented, marimbas, bongos, and a lovely flute. Plus, as Kelli-Jeane says, half-whispered jazzy female vocals. The remainder of Moonshake have just made an album in the Tom Waits / Beefheart / Fall mode, which is about as far from IDM as you can get (but still pretty good). -- Andrew Norman, Leicester, England | Jedermann sein eigner Fussball nja@le.ac.uk |
