Hi! First off, I am completely computer illiterate, but try to be
talented in other ways. Please bear with me as I am a virgin on
these machines. So here's the story before the book, pay-per-view,
documentary, and movie come out; SCOTTO STYLE.
A couple of years ago, lady Kier from Dee-lite and the Drop
Collective were passing around some ideals (and a joint) about the
future of "techno" and "house" in Rock-n-Roll Amerikka. We came up
with the ultimate party RAVESTOCK.
After visiting her lawyer who also is Michael Lang's (woodstock),
we were advised of plans for W 2 and a potential lawsuit if the
rave were to take place. By that time, I had set the press wheels
in motion, (Details Jan "93). So after constant proposals, faxes,
phone calls, it came together about 12 days ago (a year later than
planned). This was partially due to our prior relationship with
Metropolitan when they supported MASKARAVE 2 , part of the See the
Light Tour featuring Moby, Orbital, Aphex Twin, and Vapourspace.
There were 5,000. Also, the ORB simultaneously put in proposals to
Polygram/Woodstock et all. The most ridiculous part of this is the
lack of time and budget provided. At any rate, flyers are out, and,
it's happening.
We don't claim to be perfect. Events have conspired, in the past to
fuck up our events, and we have made some mistakes. But our
intention is, was and always will be to produce events that create
an environment that supports our community and that our community
supports. The ORB canceled a european date at a huge festival to be
with us @ RaveStock, Orbital has to fly in from london and fly
right the fuck out to france. AphexTwin has been true to the
underground vibe and he's with us. The Dj line up represents a
cross section of our styles, each of them respected. Frankie Bones,
legendary hardcore from Brooklyn; Keven Sauderson, a father of the
detroit techno scene; Doc Martin; fierceness personified from
LA/SF;Little Louis Vega has been house since before it was house
and Dimitry, from Dee-lite has been with us since our days at The
Red Zone and The World. DJs Louis and Alex Paterson represent some
of the best of the UK scene.
The Drop Collective with Liquid Sky Music (Soul Slinger) will
showcase new talent. Breakbeat and Jungle Vibes will close this
mutha event on Sunday.......Monday........whenever.......:)
NOW THE IMPORTANT PART--YOUR INVOLVEMENT PART ONE
We are the next generation, right? We must show the rock-n-roll
folk what's up for the NEXT 25 YEARS and we MUST COME TOGETHER in
our love for electronic dance music and in the spirit of PLUR and
community support the future sounds. One of our goals has always
been to expand into mainstream (just enough) to "convert" heads
open the doors of consciousness, art and the spirit of community.
YOUR INVOLVEMENT PART TWO
If you are from the first Woodstock, or that generation of love,
you have the most crucial role of all. See, our generation looks
back at all the nostalgia, hype, myth, and the hopes and dreams of
an era of great social change. But look at the 80's, look at what
hasn't changed. NOW we all could have a second chance, a second
revolution with your guidance and love. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL,
teach us the whole deal and TOGETHER, IT WILL HAPPEN!
What will happen, you ask? Remember you are the baby boomers,
right? Well we are the Babies of the Baby Boomers, so there's MORE
of us PLUS Ya'll. So what could happen....Legal Hemp, A different
government, an environmental political party,a sexual revolution?
I don't know. What I do know is that our generation is partly lost,
definitely confused, and we could use some guidance from those
who've been through a little bit more.
One last point, 25 years ago Woodstock peaked and probably hurt a
growing festival movement that basically died in Amerikka. It has
been thriving in EUROPE for years, and with the help of The Techno
scene, maybe, just maybe, Woodstock 2 could help launch another
wave of festivals here to spread the vibe 90's style and bridge the
barriers of racism, abuse, and empower a whole generation.
Woodstock '94 will define our generation and its the ideal vehicle
to introduce electronic dance music to a broad audience. It's set
to be the largest rave ever with 250,000 expected to attend
(175,000 tickets sold as of today) and millions more attending
virtually on PPV and on the net.
Thanks for listening to my rave :)
peace
Scotto
