[ Inhabitants of IDM, ] [ I recently updated my record database, and I observed a definite pattern with R & S and Apollo full length releases. It seems, that the catalog numbers of those mentioned above intertwine, and R & S remix releases as well as Apollo EPs follow their own numbering. Thus, I concluded the following: RS [Year] 0 [R & S Release Ordinal Number] AMB [Year Reversed] 0 [R & S Release Ordinal Number] RS [Year] 0 [Remix Release Ordinal Number] RX Apollo [Apollo Release Ordinal Number] These, of course, apply to the Belgian releases. The UK releases follow their own numbering. ] [ Could anyone confirm this, or correct me if I am wrong? ] [ Thank you. ] -- *********************************************************************** * Nuutti 'Gordon' Meril{inen, Technostructuralist & Amiga Hacker * * E-Mail: gordon@otax.tky.hut.fi * Snail-Mail: Koivistontie 59, 33820 * * Tampere, Finland * Tel.: +358-31-2662692 (Voice, Modem available) * * Manga - Hard-/Trance/Ambience/ELM - Visuals - Books and Comics - VR * * If these were not my opinions, would You claim them to be Yours ? * * Mail me for my PGP 2.3a public key. Not sure I believe this completely; for example, Locust's "Weathered Well" is AMB 3929 CD; this would imply it was released in 1993. But it says "(C)(P) 1994 Apollo Records", and it was first discussed on IDM back about 4 months ago in March. I doubt it was released in 1993 ... (I know I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately, but I think "Weathered Well" is amazing ... ) - Greg

[ Yes, I double-checked it later, too. It seems that the Apollo full-length releases follow a pattern like this: AMB 39 [ R & S Release Ordinal Number ] Otherwise, I seem to be correct. At least I do not seem to have any overlapping catalog numbers on my database. There are some interesting exceptions, like Sun Electric's Kitchen, which has a catalogue identifier of RS933. I suppose they just did not want to put RS93033 on it, but abbreviated it. This is, of course, only a supposition :-) ] -- [ gordon@otax.tky.hut.fi ]

Speaking of Sun Electric's "Kitchen" ... Remember that "We must have a lurker from Designer's Republic in here" thread from a while back? Well, did anyone else notice that the 5th track on the Sun Electric "Kitchen" album is entitled something like "5. :-) or :-(" ??? Emoticons meet music ... it hadta happen eventually ... - Greg (Wishing he could make a tape of FSOL's "Vertical Pig", Young American Primitive's "Sunrise", and half the Locust "Weathered Well" album, and then walk into American Recordings and convince them I was the personal carrier pigeon there to deliver the "new Skinny Puppy album master tape", yeah, that's the ticket (-: )

the 'smiley face song'. Well, I don't think the DR crew names songs; just a coincidence. I'm sure that the guys from Sun Electric have used some bulletin board systems and such, and caught on the smiley face phenomena, *8) Andrew -- (c) 1994, Andrew Bennett abennett@phoenix.aps.muohio.edu

I don't know if all labels do this, but it's certainly possible that the catalog number was assigned before the release even was completed. Given delays some artists have, maybe Locust's release came out much later than was expected. *shrug* Andrew -- (c) 1994, Andrew Bennett abennett@phoenix.aps.muohio.edu

For those of you less cultured, the implied title of that song is "Comedy and Tragedy."
