To: owner-idm@hyperreal.com From: "Brian O. Bozarth" <bb2j+@andrew.cmu.edu> Subject: global communications album hey..I just got a press release from dedicated records usa. After talking to a rep there..it appears the album's not due for release until Sept. 1 stateside that is. I don't know if that's a uk date as well. Here's the release..although it's a LOT of hype..it has a little info in it..I've heard the first single 9:25 and it's quite good..minimal and melodic: Global Communication - 76 14 - by Reece Purcell Imagine a world of melody. A universe ruled by harmony, where beats intertwine with your soul and lead to the brink of sheer audio extacy. Lead yourself back to those feelings of innermost contentment, warmth and security. Take yourself to that special place and you have only scratched the surface of the very core that is Global Communication. "...in this case back to the womb with the comforting sound of a maternal heartbeat." After sveral years of experience in morphing technology to fit their needs two Somerset natives, Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton met and formed their own label Evolution records. Used as a means to release electronic material that was influenced by the likes of Eno and Kraftwerk, Evolution was a vehicle of sonic experimentation. With releases by Reload, Global Communication, Rebus and E621 Evolution quickly established itself as a leader in the field of electronic music. These releases and this label to this day remains a benchmark by which the entire generation of electronic music (ambient in particular) must judge itself. While the more commonly known moniker of Reload has released a slew of material that has given Pritchard and Middleton an enormous amount of critical accliam (Mixmaster Morris called '94 as the year that these two become bigger than the Orb). The music produced by Reload is very direct and robotic, leaving the listener with an almost detached assuredness. While satisfied with the overall feel of "A Collection of Short Stories" these two felt like it was time to create another universe of sonic bliss. Thus Global Communication was born. "Global Communication is emotive expression conveyed through a medium of sound. It is designed to appeal to people of any age, race or class. A universal language inspired by people, places, sounds, textures, tasts and smells." Global Communication was spawned around Pritchard's birthday in 1992. The focus of Global Communication was to focus on researching organic sounds. After carefully selecting the proper sound and sonic structures the next step was manipulating these sounds and using these structures as a basis for conveying emotions via electronic instruments. When given the simple task of remixing the new Chapterhouse release, Pritchard and Middleton forwent the obvious remix route and produced the historic release "The Pentamerous Metamorphosis". This five track ambient epic firmly established the two as the most prolific in groundbreakers in a genre of imitators. This release simultaneously wrote an entire new standard for the remixing game, no longer is it acceptable to simply reconstruct and rework material. Now one must come up with a mini masterpiece or be judged as sub-par. Now on dedicated records comes the finest and most comprehensive Global Communication release to date, the full length 76:14. Once again Pritchard and Middleton have taken their genre to a new level surpassing all contemporaries at a light speed pace. 76:14 is simultaneously comforting and disturbing. Generating a feeling of warmth while you bite your fingernails. Melodies swirl around your head while subharmonic qualities move your very soul. Take a copy, depress play and be transported into another realm of consciousness as Global Communication demonstrates that a vocaless medium can actually speak to you if you are willing to understand listen to the language of machines. ---------------- brian/loonatiK

The Global Communication album is really nice...I'd give a more thorough review but it's somewhere under a pile of junk in Joe Rice's car right now - the single (on vinyl) is one sided and the other side of the promo (i hope they do this on the commercial release) is morse code. We just interviewed Global Communication last Wednesday and I will be posting my story once its done for you to have a preview. :) Hug Your Waistline to the Bassline............................................
