From: RedLabel1@aol.com "Well Sir it would appear that the Orb's captain is one Dr. Alex Paterson although he is surrounded by many collaborators who think in exactly the same way he does. Captain Paterson appears to have had previous posts as a roadie for a venemous post-punk act call the er, - let me check my notes Sir, ah here it is - the er, Killing Joke, also as an A & R man for EG Records (home of Bria...), two facts which a lot of media earthlings seem intent on mentioning at any opportunity Sir. The Orb Mothership was partly born out of ambient DJ'ing marathon's in Earth year 1988 with Jimi Cauty (later of the mighty KLF squadron and rank of Sound Navigator) and after thier debut release "The Kiss EP" a record based around samples from New York's infamous KISS FM wireless station - they appear to have invented something called Ambient House ("for the E generation") in Earth spin 1989, at the time of something called "Acid House Music" with the Minnie Ripperton sampled twenty minute epic, "A Huge Ever Pulsating Brain that Rules From the Centre of The Ultraworld." My sentiments too Sir... What these media men (hirs) don't mention Sir, is just how important a factor they have been to this techno music thing, how they have opened up exploration in their field and how their appearance has helped people who are taken by their manifesto, to no longer be scared of making music for the emotions which lurk inside them and to also toy with these machines that are used to translate their thoughts. They also often miss that The Orb exists as an invite for collaboration existing only as a name for projects of all shapes and sizes. Proof? Well their third single "Little Fluffy Coulds" was written during Earth rotation 1990 with one Youth - a former member of the Killing Joke regiment. At this time Capt. Paterson recruited an eighteen year old technician by the name of Kris Weston - previously under file as "Thrash" - who still plays a major technical part on board the Mothership. Capt. Paterson has worked with Steve Hillage ex of Gong corp. on his System 7 project and in return requested his help on numerous Orb assignments. Also commander Thomas Fehlmann from the Berlin Division, whom he met whilst at EG through Fehlmann's Readymade concept and his involvement with Fischman's Friend/Sun Electric. Fehlmann also helped on "Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld," The Orb's first full length reconnaissance mission in Earth turn 1991. Sir, The Orb mothership has continually futhered it's concept by relaying messages across a hundred subsequent slices of vinyl which includes them being requested to decode and restructure projects by other organizations not always from the same realm as themselves. Yes I'll just check Sir...ah, there's a huge list Sir, yes I will hurry Sir...no I won't read all of them Sir, but they have provided ultramixes for Earthlings called Erasure, Depeche Mode, Marathon, U2, Sun Electric, Wendy & Lisa, Primal Scream, Pato Banton, Wire, YMO, The Grid, Mike Oldfield, Keiichi Suzuki, Front 242, and Material to name but a few. Other full length exercises of their own included their second long-playing decree, "UFOrb" which entered the Uk tabulation at Number One on it's week of release and was preceded by "The Blue Room" which at 39m and 58s - in Earth time Sir - made histoey as the longest single ever to receive a placing. It seems Sir, that when they appeared on the popular motion decipher box as celebration of it's entry, they merely sat in white suits playing a strange Earth board game call Chess Sir...or is that cheese? A series of highly acclaimed sessions have been recorded for open-minded wireless guru Sergeant John Peel, the first two of which have been released on one CD. The popularity of these has been due to the alternative interpratationsprovided by the fact that basically The Orb is a DJ and an engineer working to spotaneously live. In April of Earth revolution 1991, they gave their first demonstration in front of a conference and have continued to do so since at even larger attended meetings. Sir, this is one hugely pulsating important factor to The Orb's existence, again often missed by the "menhirs," they under value and misinterpret these events and often claim that they are nonsense. But the Orb have to be watched closely Sir, one listen is never enough. By playing these "gigs," where they recruit extra help from specialists in the fields of percussive and bass enhancement, they reload, decipher and elucidate these messages and no performance is ever the same. Sometimes Sir, they put on these incredible all-night rendez-vous in an Earth town called London where everything happens all at once and lots of its inhabitants stay up all night smiling. They have also been invited to perform these rituals at other strange gatherings. Twice they have played a summer event called Glastonbury, the last time we witnessed them - on Earth run 93 - so many came to hear their wisdom that it's organizers had to stop people entering the huge field that they were within. On the August Bank Holiday of that same year in another part of Earth called Copenhagen, they played on a flaoting "Ghetto Blaster" to 4000 people at a man-made dock just outside the main harbour, access to which could only be attained by boat and where long ago a man named Nelson lost his arm. We understand that many people also "lost it" that night Sir. They are also highly popular at an Earth point called Japan and indeed recorded evidence of these three locations is available on a four album, double CD set entitled "Orb Live 93" the first release by their new base of outlet, Island Records, although for non-Orb excursions, Captain Patterson is still involved with the label that he set up with Field Marshall Morris - The Orb's manager. As I already revealed Sir, The Orb's captain is also a Doctor. er...an Orbologist, Sir...and this last year has seen him travel to numerous surgeries with his medicine box brimming with 12" platter, administering medicinal musical cures. He is often attended by associates and fellow experts DJ Lewis who accompanies the Mothership wherever it visits - and it would appear that another medical man, Dennis the good Doctor, of Unit 808 State. When three work together they operate under the cryptogram "The Three Muskateers," spinning out uninterrupted and detailed examinations of this communicative force in a language that they all seem to understand. Now Sir, The Orb have a brand new summary of recent experiments carried out in their laboratories which is due to be revealed in these United States July 12, a detailed report of investigations under the title "Pomme Fritz." It's their first major account for nearly two years and it sees them reprogrammed in a way that shows that there is more to them than we first assumed. Sir, close scrutiny here is now essential, just as we thought we were right on their trail, they appear to have thrown us off. This is where we really have to start watching them Sir...I know Sir, I know, I've got extra men working on it right now Sir. We are only restricted by our ideas Sir and the wealth of the Orb is obviously limitless. Ah but here's the detail that our trip was in aid of Sir, Alex Paterson is a Chelsea supporter..." Your interpreter was Sherman At The Controls (Summmmmm-er 1994) P.S. Attn Earthlings....In Ord to celebrate the landing of "Pomme Fritz" we invite you to a listening party...ah ...rahter we invite you to hast a listening party. The one in your state.
