Way back in High School I wrote a paper on Lucid Dreams. Fascinating stuff. But I do believe that they occur during REM dream state. (Which would mean during sleep.) The lucid dreamer can recognize during the dream that they are in fact *in a dream state*. At which point they begin to express control over thier dream environs. Lucid dreamers often can *learn* to recognize their dream state and have considerable success in *returning*. This fact is quite true. Teep

Very true. As soon as I heard about Aphex Twin claiming he created the ideas for SAWII during his lucid dreams, I started reading alt.dreams.lucid to try to learn this skill. I've had one lucid dream so far, and it was - awesome... I was dreaming and I suddenly found out that it was a dream...but it felt so real...just like in the middle of the day... The only thing I managed to control was my own actions tho, not the environment and thus I couldn't create any new weird noises :( but still, the experience was _incredible_ :) It is _the ultimate_ VR experience...and it is for free...no electronics or chemicals needed... everyone should try it...
