tP boi with the freak beat. . .(ch-ill communication) turned some green into gold this weekend. . .picked up em:t0094 (instinct records) ex-280-2 a solid 50+ minutes of soulful ambient dub on an exchange program from t:me, nottingham . . .i bet someone at instinct got a promotion for scoring this . . .points on the scale . . .8.5/10 in my ears i hear ambient taking off in two directions. . 1 from the rave base i hear echoplexed Roland brothers dancing in synth baths (sounds that i hear when i've slept in sheets dipped in liquid ;) great for the comedown but not necessarily for the hang around 2 from the home base i hear the dry sands of the desert. . .empty spaces and active imaginations, ancient rhythms and enchanting vocals (sounds that i hear when i've fallen asleep with the nature channel ;) great for relaxation and world/self exploration the success of em:t0094 is the correct proportioning of home and rave based ambient. . .in each track the concoction works. . .let's do it 1 coco, steel & lovebomb *harlem* 8'01" This is the bus ride that little Stevie would have had. If only he had NOT gotten off at the wrong stop. . .dreamy funk drive thru the CITY 2 voodoo warrior of love *sweat* 8'35" here we are in the perfect blend (remember home/rave) slow tribal grooves and sneaky synths. . .airto purim 90's stylee. . .nice! 3 bad data *deep freeze* 5'23" you will have a hard time distinquishing this track from the backround noise outside your open window. . .tender dubby drums tug your ear back to the speakers. . .Eno would be proud 4 gas *pixels* 1'27" phew, pardon the pun but this gas stinks. . .like a bad soundtrack to a bad soap opera. . .cut to commercial. . . glad it's only 3 long (3 commercials silly!) 5 qubism *anthropomorphic* 7'51" this is like a house track intro that never allows for the 4/4 to arrive (thank god). . .melodically it has a far east feel to it with piano and chanting. . .hmm, this WOULD make a nice house track intro (INFIDEL! HYPOCRITE! ;) 6 milan *earthloop* 3'43" ultramarinesque. . .sampling meatbeats sampling from pot sounds here we are again in the blend of home/rave. . .fans of idm's Terre Thaemlitz will wonder if this is a hovering glows remix ;) *is there any intelligent life out there?* 7 miasma *walking blindfold* 5'05" this track is almost wholly world groove. . .recorders and piano with dubby percussion. . .light traps and bass. . .some vocals which work but certainly not in the Flora spirit of charming 8 strawberry girl *poesie* 7'43" skip this track. . .unless you enjoy tres cheeze french overdubs if it wasn't for this track em:t0094 would have recd. 9.5/10 8 woob *void, part one* 12'17" FSOL junkies take note. . .either woob ripped G & C's riffs wholesale or we are partaking in a *rough draft* of Cascade i would hope that this is yet another pseudonym. . .check it a bubble dub intro gives way to zooming chooming peeeeyowing severeal species groove with a pict. . .cascading chords and tribal bongo rhythm . . .damn there's the definitive sample *we are the future* case closed. . .FSOL it is. . .or bust(ed) grab a little groove. . .em:t0094 should be at mcTower making that decision just a little harder for you. . .hmmmmmm ;) (end em:t0094 plug and review) on a last funky note. . .if you havn't picked up the new beasties do it now. . .yes these kids are all in your face on the covers of ragazines but shit! they can freak pure funk real time. . . freak freak, Teep

Interesting that you make the FSoL link as Woob used to collaborate with Brian Dougans (or maybe it was Cobain...) of FSoL. [CiM]
