"hi ho!" Wilbur Daffodil-11 WEST INDY stuff these two words through the drivel-o-matic and you get: western USA independent dance music label. coming out the drivel-after-burner you get two more words, exist dance do you follow? In the Major Leauge of Dance Music, Exist Dance fronts and impressively solid bassball team. Fearless in their creative diversity, they have pressed out a full spectrum of dance music: from proper BPM trance through tribal acid and on into richly syncopated funk bump sandwiches washed down with an ambient milkshakes, it's down on wax and wearing the ED label. No question they wreck the AL west with a diverse lineup up releases. I first ran into the sounds of HEAVEN (their Los Angeles Bass Station) when a baby blue copy of ED002, Tranquillity Bass, hit the Starport turntables. A planet full of pure jazz bass riffs simmered in outer space spices and served up over aching hip hop loops, instantly drew the attention and high praise of the Terra Posse musical palette. Hell, the shit floored me so hard I wrote my first letter to a label. btw (to date i have only written to one other. . .rephlex of course ;) and (neither have written back :( but (their music speaks to me more profoundly than any letter could ;) "theeeeeyrrre baaaack!" Carol Anne Tranquillity Bass _broadcast standard issue no. I_ exist dance 012 Cantamilla-printside outer This is a dance floor serenade! A melancholy string intro blends into piano meanderings. *ahhhhh* The cantamilla vocals send shivers up my spine. Gentle bass drops and booming traps jump up front. *ahhhhhh* Always rephreshing to hear some traps. The groove here is all natural. I easily slip into a memory of a musical induced peak experience. Late night in a house deep in the woods. Everyone has an instrument in their hands. Soup spoons, sticks, mouths, bongos, out of tune guitars, and in tune syncopation. You haven't lived until those moments. *I see. . .I know* Mya Yadan-printside inner Rain drops into a delay pedal. The Familiar Familia is playing in the back yard. Percussion begins to percolate. A chant begins Solid bass bumps up. Bring the syncopation. Fat traps build and build. *open your mind, your hearts, your very soul* ED brings on the positive anthem. (Always a bonus.) But hey, enough gushing, back to the beat. The buildup increases, beats doubling and hitting harder. Heads up now! Hear come da champion sound break down! Unpasturized scratching saturated in distortion. . .rip it up disc jockey! Cantamilla-moonside outer You jump right into the mix down of a damn jamming, hand clappin, guitar, bass, and synth funk scat jazz track. The success of this mix is sweet production. ED as usual, works the board and releases scrubbing bubbles dub. Eye see, I know. LOCK GROOVE (hey,my copy of ED002 did the same ting) They Came in Peace (Sea of Tranquillity) moonside inner Back in the park with the birds and crickets. Breathy bass intro _number nine_ (think white album). More production juice. This track was recorded in heaven for sure. The vocals cascade into your headphones. *We came in peace for all mankind.* They ricochet and rephlect you into a trance. A chill out anthem. (end of part one. . .stay tuned for part two. . .Freaky Chakra) coming after lunch ;) Teep
