For those of you out there who are frustrated that you can't find any
of the discs you want in your local stores, here are a couple
suggestions to help you out:
1) Mail-order
There are many stores that will ship hard-to-find CDs anywhere in the
country (I suppose some will ship world-wide). This can be a great help
for those who live in towns where the closest thing to techno is Depeche
Mode. Personally, I rely on Dave at Ear/Rational. Mail him at
angst@xmission.com and tell him what you're looking for; he can probably
get it. Another option is the Compact Disc Connection, which is a modem
service which has a catalog of over 80,000 cds to choose from.? If you
use your credit card, your order usually arrives within a week or two.
To get on-line, telnet cdconnection.com and you're in! Using these two
methods, you are getting pretty good prices as well.
2) Ask your friends, the IDM'ers!!
We idm'ers are probably the most likely persons to have what you're
looking for, with the exception of the stores. Over the past 2 years
I've built up a rather substantial collection of idm, trance, house, and
ambient, and I'll bet that there are others that have too. Here's what
I've bought from idm'ers recently:
Black Dog - Temple of Transparent Balls $10.00
Biosphere - Microgravity ? $ 8.00
AFX in his Third Analogue Bubblebath $11.00
The Shamen - Different Drum remixes $ 9.00
If you were to buy any of these in a store (if you were lucky to find
these in a store) you'd probably pay at least $20 for each.? If you're
trying to sell some of your old idm and techno, this list might be a
good place to offer your wares. I've sold 11 discs on the list
recently, taking in about twice as much as what I'd get by selling
them to a store. So don't fret, rejoice!

Note: I'm in no way affiliated with Ear/Rational or the Compact Disc
Connection. I am merely a satisfied customer sharing the good word. ;)
