I remember snatching both the original and the remixes when they first hit watts, and running home with a big smile on my face.. However, I remember being thoroughly unimpressed when I sat down to listen to them.. Though the hard track (A2) was fun, all of the tracks were highly repetative.. I still consider Bubblebath 2 and SAW I to be his most impressive releases.. I think what is most impressive about him is that he's just some wacked out bloke who's getting paid to have fun.. Although I think respect is definitely due, this fanatical worship of his every breath reminds me of AHA! fanclubs.. Maybe we should just proliferate his phone number to all who want it, so they can finally confirm whether he wears his boots when he's in bed with his girlfriend. I think we need to take a step back and breath some air.. There are MANY, MANY other artists doing things that are of the caliber, if of a higher caliber, than what sir Richard is doing.. People like Juan, Derrick, Carl, Terrace, Kenny, Neuro Politique, and the like have been pushing the limits for years... THIS IS NOT A NEW THING. I suggest that both sides of the isle go pick up a copy of ART 2.2 and drop the needle on "Choke and Fly" by Balil or pick up "Frequency vs. Juan Atkins" or "Jeff Mills vs. Subjects" OR "Relics" by Derrick May or "Mind You Don't Trip" by Neuropolitique or anything on Metamorphic.. The point is that there is so much out there that has just as much to offer as any good aphex track.. My most listened to record currently is the "Virtual Sex" compilation on Buzz.. expand you viewpoint, but don't succumb to pop mediocrity. Techno is a combination of the blues and sonic experimentation.. It's about a deep, personal soul that only manifests itself in a select few.. Don't get lost in the ambient ether, cause it doesn't have to put you to sleep to make you relax. ** ******** ********** ********** ******** **Born.Under.A.Rhyming.Planet. +8 Records, Chicago, Il.

Yeah I guess I have to agree with you slightly :) '73-yips' the hard track is awesome and I like the dark fucked up one with the wailing baby sample but 'On' itself is totally tedious after the first few minutes.

AB2 ? ie 'digeridoo'? or do you mean AB3? I was disappointed with AB3 and only really like the first monster hard track. Yeah, I think RDJ is quite obviously a total nutcase (or the worlds most impressive practical joker), but he's appears to be enjoying himself and has yet to sell out, despite the hype so I think he deserves massive credit for that.

heh heh heh. Love the AHA bit! It's very true too. But to be blunt - so the fuck what? Do you really believe people are blind to everything other than RDJ work?

Yep these are all top top artists, Terrace in particular is very 'under discussed', I have most of his work and he kicks. 'Pulling the Strings' should be an all time IDM classic. I do however think you're on dangerous territory when you talk about ol' Dezzer tho. Pushing the limits? Not since about 1989 or whenever he last released a record. Everything he's done is pretty bloody good but AFAIK he hasn't done anything significant for years. Apart from moan. And as for Mr Larkin. Do you really think _Azimuth_ pushed a limit? I quite like it but it was hardly groundbreaking. (I did think the Panic in detroit stuff was good, but again hardly new) I can't real comment on carl craig 'cos he's virtually unavailable over here, tho I recently bought 69 '4 jazz funk classics'. And was very dissapointed I have to add. Neuro Politique? Who? Something to look out for if it's as good as the rest of the bunch.

I wish I could find a copy. Actually on the subject of Black Dog Productions, I think they, along with RDJ, are just about the only people to have innovated in the last few years.

Of course there is, and I spend lots of time tracking it all down, but the whole AFX thing has a certain mystique about it that makes it a good conversation topic. People are going to have to live with this.

AFX = pop mediocrity?? I think not. greg 3 0 3

I'd say a good amount of both :)

Exactly. I must say, RJ hasn't seen so many rotations on my turntable recently because its being monopolized by Mu-ziq and Reload. They just won't leave..

Actually I have Kirk's _Virtual State_ a/b side glued to one deck and _Tango n' Vectif_ c/d side glued to the other. Still. Mind you I think I might be able to prise it off, to swap it for the a/b sides. :) greg

Yup, that and Xylem Tube are well wicked.. Tamphex of course being a real anthem.. ic. I do however think you're on dangerous

He's been writing tracks aparently.. I think my undying respect is due to this unreleased track that Dan Bell played me that knock my socks off.. No real beat, just a flowing bass-line..

The promo 12" of panic in detroit has a really incredible remix by Kenny.. Pure funk..

He's on the Virtual Sex comp, and Rich tells me he just released something on some european label that's supposidely killer.. Also, he's got an R&S album coming!

Well I just wish he'd stop farting about and get some tracks out then. Even if they are on R&S.

This what I have I think. Essential detroit. 'biotic' on one side and a mix of the 'serena x' thing and another track on the flip.
