I was just giving the archives a squizz for stuff about Sigma Editions, and have noticed something which no one's touched on, but which may be of interest. As has been said, Sigma Editions is founded by Dion Workman and Paul Douglas (aka Rosy Parlane). They were both members of a band called Thela from Auckland, New Zealand. I just found out that the third ex-member of Thela, Dean Roberts, is White Winged Moth, who has released stuff on his own Formacentric label and on Mille Plateaux. People into Sigma Editions might want to check out his CD 'Ribbon Arcade', as it contains a lot of the similar ideas (ie. gentle, processed and edited improv/free music). Other stuff I know of that he's done is minus the processing side, so not so relevant. Michael np. excuse me: not relevant??? In what way?? I personally think Dean Roberts is one of those few musicians where you directly can point out HIS sound... Even Thela was more Dean then the Sigma guys (no offence) j³ -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Michael Upton <jetjag@MailAndNews.com> Aan: idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org> Datum: maandag 10 januari 2000 22:07 Onderwerp: (idm) Sigma Editions related info

I just meant relevant to the list, not being electronic... probably still relevant to the ambient list, and certainly relevant to those interested in Sigma Ed stuff, sure. Sorry for any confusion. It's definitely not a discredit to Dean Roberts either.. There's plenty of music I love that I wouldn't consider relevant or recommend to people on here. Michael np. relevant or not... I think it's a big mistake to focus on one genre (I understand you feel the same). "Alternative Underground" is allready such a small world it seems a shame people get obsessed in being it electronic (cfr the idm list) or not... Dean Roberts latest effort on Mille Plateau was definetelly more electronic oriented then his previous works and his live shows are being dominated by his 8 track machine... I don't want to start another discussion about being idm or not because i'm NOT intrested... I'm just saying there's plenty of other music out there which maybe isn't theoretical idm but where the gap sometimes isn't that big... johan -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: Michael Upton <jetjag@MailAndNews.com> Aan: Johan LOONES <johan.loones@skynet.be>; idm@hyperreal.org <idm@hyperreal.org> Datum: maandag 10 januari 2000 22:50 Onderwerp: RE: (idm) Sigma Editions related info
