3 cds i bought today in this indie shop here which seems to have its moments in techno: air liquide [blue 006] air liquide: nephology [blue 013] the speed freak: return to speed city [mono tone 018] first of all, why the poing did none of you tell me that air liquide are jammin' unit and walker of big force inc. fame????? second: later this week, expect reviews of the above. the speed freak cd is something that i've been looking for in any format, but preferably vinyl (no chance), for half a year now... three: on mon, 25 apr 1994 20:30:21 +0200, chris giles u90cmg@ecs.oxford.ac.uk wrote:

car & driver = nosebleed hardcore. i'm glad you like this... but well there's better stuff for you to be found then, both on fim as by car & driver, imo... i like their second e.p. (clubcraft) better, it's less repetitive and more funny, and the remix of "disco award" is also better than the original... their best, though, and that's what introduced me to them, was their remix of "help germany" on force inc. uk #2, which adds double-speed bass drum sequences and samples from steve reich's "it's gonna rain" and is wise enough to keep that spinning acid line that occasionally drifts into pitched noise...

jammin' unit is, as much as i know, one male person. the release you're looking for might be on blue, or mono tone (they're coloured vinyl fans - never seen a mono tone release in black), or dj'ungle fever, or structure... the jammin' unit selection on the rauschen 6 comp. "temptation" is presumably from "140", which is, i believe, not released yet. "temptation" put me quite off with a sample from some sadistic horror movie. not my cup of tea. the walker release (schrei nach liebe; fim 059) is very beautiful, though. pure, faultless, grooving acid. adheres to the latest trend to put stresses (hi-hat) on 3 and 4 again instead of 93's 1 and 2.

I remember, quite a while back now, Peely playing a track by Car & Driver called (I think) "2 o'clock". Does anyone have any info on this i.e. what 12"/EP it was released on, cat. no, etc. Cheers, __ Simon Walley | 1E 76 9A 0D 78 3A 3B 1C | /\ \ <u9323899@sys.uea.ac.uk> | A1 60 73 AE 8B 0E E0 B6 | /--\_\

Yep. this is on the above ep. fim018. good little number. I like the terror bit @ the end. also 'drive' is excellent hard trance.

I thought for a while that this was one of the best kept secrets around my area. It still is in a way. Both the Air Liquide's are very good, but sound almost like Jammin Unit on Valium. They are much more melodic than anything by Jammin Unit that I have heard before. The first Liquid Air has been around for a while now.

Yes, it is on orange vinyl, and it is very good. I would call it borderline hard trance (DJ'ungle fever side) and groovy-acid-pseudogarage-trance on the 'eye' side.

Dj'ungle Fever is written on one side, but the engraving in the center indicates that it is released by Jammin Unit himself. It gives his fax number I believe.

140 is released because I have it. It is not the same type of stuff that I have come to expect from Jammin Unit. For one thing, it is very high pitched and prone to give you (and anyone else with a set of ears) a headache. 140 is also not very inventive as far as I'm concerned. It was a disappointment coming from Force.

Point of interest: The Blue label is owned by the same German techno-acid-heads that brought you Structure!! Much of the best Structure stuff was liscensed to Edge Records - UK (303 Madonna, Mike Inc., Vinyl Countdown...). They also run a hardcore label called Mono Tone (the stuff clocks @ 170+ up to 200bpm sometimes). Their latest and greatest stuff has been wierd white label projects dedicated to specific German artists. I have a couple. One is I (Atom Heart) live from France. Each side is about 20mins. THE MOST INCREDIBLE LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER! It's all spaced out mid-tempo trance. Another is a single sided etched disk by Walker and is mixed by Jammin' Unit. I also have a blue marbled vinyl called Shark Volume One, the most intense hard acid I've ever heard. One of my favorites is Acid Jesus (A spoof on the Acid Jazz label. they imitate the logo and everything) Klang One and Klang Two. The last is a super housey acid record called Play House. Another fantastic project they are responsible for is Burger Industries. Oh! I almost forgot. They are involved with POD Communications in putting out the Delerium label from Frankfurt. These guys are responsible for the best German records out. Happy hunting! -robert
