I received a card last week announcing "Secret Life of Trance" is coming out domestically on Planet Earth (subsidiary of Moonshine). Does this mean that Instinct lost rights to Rising High?

Yes, excllusive rights, anyway. Oh and BTW, Planet Earth is NOT a subsidiary of Moonshine. Planet Earth is a product of a nasty split between two factions of the Moonshine camp. It's got Jason Bentley as A&R and Michelle Lolli as a publicist, so it's kind of turned into an Urb office - Raymond Roker, the publisher of Urb, designed the Secret Life of Trance cover. (I know, more than you'd ever want to know about this - look for my Secret Life of Trance review soon anyway) Tamara

I don't think so... I believe Rising High doesn't license things exclusively... Instinct released Risinh High Trance Injection, a double disc that contains *some* of Seret Life of Trance 2, and Planet Earth released Secret Life of Trance, a single disc with *less* of the same comp. If you don't go ahead and buy the import (2 discs with all the tracks), I'd recommend the Instinct release which contains more good tracks than the chintzy Planet Earth release. BTW Planet Earth is NOT a subsidiary of Moonshine... Moonshine split in a rather unfriendly way over differences in musical direction. Planet Earth has the rights to the Moonshine back catalogue (and thus the money), and Moonshine is struggling, financially and creatively... (and judging from their response to my United State of Ambience review, getting a bit moody as well) Peace, Matt Corwine XLR8R Magazine, Seattle

Also, I just got my Instinct catalog yesterday----with Dreamfish crossed off in pen! Not sure what's happening with Instinct...guess I have to pay import prices for Dreamfish now :( David Nunes nunes@wiliki.eng.hawaii.edu

From CDC: PLE50099 SECRET LIFE OF TRANCE VOLUME 1 $12.86 PLANET EARTH 3/94 INFLUX/SEQUENTIAL/RD1/BALIL OBX/KIBU/POSITIVE S According to this, it came out last month. Here is a track listing and review from uk-dance: Various: The Secret Life of Trance Rising High RSN CD6 UK 1993 77:37 Sequential: Prophet Spicelab: Quicksand Hardfloor: Hardtrance Acperience 1 Ongaku: Mihon Love Inc: Trance Atlantic XS Bi-Face: Ambience 137 Rising High Collective: No Deeper Love (Irresistable Force mix) Influx: Braineater Barbarella: Barbarella (Pound & Smith remix) Black Dog Productions: Flux D Mix A compilation of tracks from Germany's Harthouse, Pod and Force Inc. labels mixed in with 3 from Rising High themselves. Stand out is the awesome Hardfloor track which despite having been played to death for ages I still love. Barbarella is one of several Rising High remixes from Sven Vath's Barbarella album, apparently being held back from UK release by Warner Brothers. Well up to Vath's usual high standard. Spicelab's Quicksand rounds things off for Harthouse with a nice ambient track featuring spacey synths over gentle percussion. Best from Pod is Sequential's Prophet - better mix than on the Sequential album with what sounds like a tropical bird house in the background. The acidy Ongaku and Bi-Face are less interesting. Love Inc and Rising High's Influx are good, but Black Dog turn in one of their less polished performances. Despite an attempt to rescue it by the Mix Master, label boss Caspar Pound's No Deeper Love is dire. **** -------------- This must be the UK version. Is the US version any different? -boB

The version you have listed at the start of this mail is what was released in the UK as "Secret Life Of Trance Vol. 2", which is (I think) RSNCD12. RSNCD6 is "The Secret Life Of Trance", with the track listing as shown above. "Secret Life...2" is a 2xCD pack whereas the first one is a single CD release.
