I walked into Tower in Berkeley and went to one of those listening stations that had Themes from Vapourspace in the magazine. As I listened, there was either a song previous to Gravitational Arch of 10 or just a very ambient wind up. After GA of 10, the rhythm and theme changed but the cd player's readout didn't. I hit the advance button. Nothing happened. Does this cd have one massive song on it or was the cd player broken? Sami

Yes...the disc is one continuous track at almost exactly 60 mins... it is virtually impossible to tell when one song begins and when one ends...so i generally regard it as a big ol single...:) i played it on my show the other day...i send out a playlist...on the list i just wrote "10 minutes from themes from vapourspace" because there was no way i could honestly tell someone just how many songs i did play... but if you really want to tell them apart...you can tell when the music starts to turn in a particularly different direction... i think i need to go listen to it a few hundred more times to make sure i am right... later, jasonosaj ----------------------------------j a h 1 0 @ r a . m s s t a t e . e d u ####### ###### ##### ####### --------------------------------------- ## ## ## ## ## ## T H E * N E W * E D G E ####### ## ## ## ####### --------------------------------------- ## ## ## ## #### ## monday nights * 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. ####### ###### ##### ####### --------------------------------------- ----------------------------------O N * W M S V * 9 1 . 1

There is a list of times for where tracks end/begin at techno.stanford.edu. Um, I may be wrong, but when I listened to it at the record store, I seem to remember the index numbers ticking along every once in a while, which probably indicate new songs starting. However, I also seem to remember that at least a few times the index incremented and yet there was no noticeable change in the music. Hmmm... Of course if your CD player (like mine) shows only track numbers, this doesn't do you any good anyway.

Not too much of a puzzle. Apparently your CD player shows on track numbers, not tracks and indices. The CD player at the store shows index numbers, and while the track number is "1" and the time is the length of the whole disc, the index starts at "0" (time -0:02 to 0:00) then progresses to "1" and then on up into higher numbers. Actually, many idm artists use the index numbers for useful purposes. For example, on many Front242 recordings, if you can jump to index 2 on a track, you skip over the intro. Other times, the index numbers appear to be completely random. And sometimes the entire track is at index 1 (except that the blank space before a track is always index 0). A few bands have recently hidden secret songs in track 1, index 0--for example the song runs from -3:21 to -0:03--so you have to insert the disk and rewind to hear them. ___________ ______________________________________________________________ / payn@ \ "Let an artist show you how to bring a curse down on Satan" \ / scf.usc.edu / --Hilt / \____________/_____________________________________________________________/

Naw.. Mark only put one index point on the CD.. If that annoys you, get the vinyl on either FFRR or +8.. Cheers! ** ******** ********** ********** ******** **Born.Under.A.Rhyming.Planet. +8 Records, Chicago, Il.
