I'm tired of people criticizing "ambient" music. I think these labels we've
given this music are loose fitting. By definition, there isn't a whole lot of
ambient music being released at all. What we've got here is a strange brew of
ambient and progressive electronic. OOps, I've used the word again,
"progressive".. The only reason that we call this music ambient is because
that's the label it recieved in its earliest stages of development. Now, maybe
another label would be more appropriate, but I don't think there is anything
wrong with the title that stuck. I know that it is a broad title, but what about
"experimental electronic"? Its a mouth full.
As far as FHT goes, I have a track on the first one under the name "The Dark
Beautiful". I have to admit, I was disappointed in the over all quality of the
tracks included in this compilation. My favorite tracks are mine <of course> and
my roomate's (Les Fleurs du Mal, aka Jon D.).. Originally, I was told that I was
going to be on the same CD with Tylervision... That was the only reason I submitted
a track in the first place. Then I think Kim wanted to make the first FHT all
SF based artists.. <ick> There aren't that many 'RAVE' artists who write quality
'ambient' music.
HOWEVER, I have to say that I agree with B R O T H E R A L P H A B I T in that
the second one is significantly better than the first. I particularly enjoyed
the Single Cell Orchestra track.. He's one of the most tallented
players/programmers I know. Look for a full length CD comming sometime in June
on a new SF label 'Ultraviolet Recordings'..
