The new CD by Material that you're talking about is titled
"Hallucination Engine", and is very impressive. Bill Laswell does
much of the production and plays bass on most of the tracks. This
music is great, as it makes the transformation from hauntingly
beautiful ethnic through ambiance, then dub, then a little of an acid
jazz touch. Somehow they manage to pull off the transitions through
these widely varied styles of music without being too abrupt. The
music flows throughout each song. Also, William Burroughs samples
are on one of the tracks (good samples, done properly, not repetitive
at all). If I had to categorize this music, I would call it
"intelligent spaceydubfunk". On a 1 to 10 scale, I give it an 8/10.
