I'm phresh from my 6th month rave check up. This was my first *real* rave since hopping onto IDM and there were some IDM moments phor shure. As I made my way into the venue the bazerker sounds of SPASTIK (Hawtin) flail out of the (2nd) sexiest sound system i've ever seen/heard. The always consistent dj Irasciblator (Frankie Bones) was on the mix. (And on the mic) After playing the only solid hardcore all night, he gave way to Scott Henry. Who is the definition of *DA MAN!*. Praise! Scott lobbed out the funky jams. I latched my booty onto the frontside of a bassbin and passed out good vibes with a smile the size of Cali. Scott managed to pull a couple tracks out of my own set. . . Kids are calling this track. . . *THAT song!* Boys Own (collect 004) The Dust Brothers EP Fourteenth Century Sky *THAT song* is _Chemical Beats_ which has as many Bassdrops Per Megabreakdown as UVC's the Trip and is steadily rising to match the Trip's anthemic status. Also of mention is the flipside inner track on the same EP. _Her Jazz_ takes a huge bite out of FSOL paupa new guinea, and *dusts it off* in more ways then one. Does anyone know if these are the same *dust brothers* that dropped the Beastie Boys, Pauls Boutique into the caustic bucket? (i digress) But soon after Scott Henry finished wreckin shit, Tin Tin took over the controlls and lulled the crowd to sleep with some of the most noxious trance. (IMONSHO) I skipped over to the teepee tent just in time to catch the return of the *O*. . .dj Onionz. Wickie, wickie! Skills galore once more. The kid has got juice. He comes in with a flurry of scratching and lays down funk upon funk. Finally, he settled into a blend of acid and house. . .er, acid house. Nice and minimal (oy!). But the real bombs started dropping later in the morning. It was raining bass. Ultraviolet Catastrophe the Trip (remix) came snaking out of the PA. High fives went out to the crew as I pro- nouced the Drukman connection to the electromonstor. OOOHHHHH! BAM BAM! The dj MAGIC MIKE remix of Planet Rock got played by some kid i dont know but now i love. (Those of you that know me, know how bedazzled I was.) My grip on reality really started to slip as the kid proceeded to guide in the depth charged strickly rhythm classic, Two Knotches-RHYTHM WARFARE. OK, so now 4 (four) tracks that I always pack in my bag have been played at a Rave, what could possibily come next???? er, that would be 5. . .and sure enough it was a killer Zone Records DJ Icee Energy Traxx Vol. 1 (N.N.I.D.M.) If I'm not on a pedestal praising bass i'm on the dance floor breaking my legs to the hype of freestyle. This 4 tracker is 1 part freestyle breaks 1 part energy. The combination of the two spells certain death among techno purists, but I for one will be the first to give the ICEEman a high five. Anyone who can effectively *bring it back* right up off the Nu Groove classics like How and Little's (SUMMER SLAMS) gets the Teepee seal of quality technobass. The breakdowns are all 1994, dusted like the Brothers above, but the freestyle is straight from the late 80's. Brooklyn in the house. . the return of the boom bap. Could my prophecy of a freestyle rennaissance be coming true? I sincerely hope so, Teep oh, for the record. . .The (real) UK Kids Fabio Paras and Darren Emerson were both no shows. No excuse necessary thanks. as the lyrical genius sez, *who i trust? no one* Flavor Flav
