Well, I've been readin the thread about shoegazing these last few days and its got to be said that I think there's little or no difference between some of these bands and certain types of IDM. For example, I challenge anyone to tell the difference between Main's track "Suspension" (an ambient chill-in nightmare that sets anyone on edge, very low-level sound with a nonrhythmic drum tap that sounds unnerving to say the least) and Atom Heart's "One Atomsecond" (much the same, without drum tap, but all done with computers). Seefeel got a lot fo their influence from My Bloody Valentine, and if you listen to 1991's "Loveless" album you can certainly see which way they are heading. Kevin Shields has been quoted as saying he's now going to use his samplers with computers instead of with guitars (to a certain extent). Some of the Reload stuff from "Short stories" tends to remind me vaguely of Slowdive, to a lesser extent. I think both scenes of ambient DM and shoegazing are pretty much paralleled in a lot of ways - both pretty diverse and original. Anyway, thats my 2p on the subject! darko 3-beyond.....
