To my tastes, I think that groups like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Seefeel have a lot more to do with ambient than with IDM per se. Any connection at all becomes more tenuous ith Lush, Ride, Moose, Curve (the best of the bunch, IMHO), and that lot. Ambient texturing with guitars: great idea. You can get sounds out of them that you just can't get with your Moog. Add pop influence to your taste. I for one applaud them for doing something new with guitars, as their sound was becong quite tiresome. MBV's _Loveless_ is quite the knees of the bees. If a direct musical connection isn't evident to you, I think the spirit behind it should be: creating new environments with old equipment, challenging the listener. SO what did you all think of the shoegazer/idm remixes, i.e. Slowdive's "In Mind" mixes and Seefeel's _Pure,_Impure_? The thing that most caught my ears was the remix of Seefeel's "Plainsong" by Sine Bubble, who BTW are the same folks as Autocreation on _Excursions_In_ Ambience_II_. They sound fantastic...can't wait for more of their work. And by the way, keep an eye out for Locust's album in the next week or two. I've been mighty impressed with him so far. OK I'm done now. --Seofon
