I suddenly got the urge to post some reviews for my most recent purchases. True, some of these are quite old (that is, a few months), but I always appreciate any review to help me with my cd-buying decisions, so I will try to return the favor once in a while. Note: my opinions are just that; opinions. Om - Instant Enlightenment (78:02) C & S (CS 8513) 1 Seed of Sound (6:32) 2 Wheels of Light (6:22) 3 Here Comes The Sun (7:20) 4 Human Love (6:58) 5 Physical Reality (8:02) 6 Virtual High (6:41) 7 Are You Experienced? (8:29) 8 Peace Of Mind (5:07) 9 Be Here Now (11:06) 10 Big Chill Out II (6:39) 11 Ectoplasm (4:44) I got this album because I had purchased the Om single on the advice of Pete Ashdown (thanks Pete :)), which consists of tracks 6 thru 8. Thus, I have no need for the single now. Seed of Sound starts out spacey, then picks up the tempo; one of my favorites. Wheels of Light sounds too much like your average cookie-cutout trance song, not much that makes it stand out. Still good, though. Here Comes The Sun sounds like part 2 of track 2. Human Love is on the ambient side, soft drums that echo, not bad. Physical Reality is very fast, once again, a cookie-cutout. Virtual High is my favorite. When someone asks me what "trance" is, I play them this song. Fast, great bass line, really trippy. Are You Experienced? starts out with 1:30 of mellow, 4:30 of beats, and the rest is mellow. Peace of Mind is The Universe Compilation (66:46) Moonshine (M 50089-2) 1 The Hypnotist - Pioneers of the Universe (6:47) 2 C.J. Bolland - Spring Yard (4:34) 3 AFX - .215061 (3:50) 4 Suburban Hell - List 2 (4:54) 5 Illuminatae - Tremore Del Terra (6:59) 6 Two Thumbs - Virtual Reality (4:30) 7 Dr. Fernando - Jojba (3:09) 8 Skyflyer - Flying Deeper (5:05) 9 Resistance D - Cosmic Love (3:30) 10 Laurent Garnier - Virtual Breakdown (3:47) 11 Sequential - Sequential (6:51) 12 Dave Angel - 1st Symphony (4:35) 13 Sven Vath - Barbarella (8:13) Space Time Continuum with Terence McKenna - Alien Dreamtime (64:49) Astralwerks (ASW 6107-2) 1 Archaic Revival (12:02) 2 Transient Generator (7:33) 3 Alien Love (7:09) 4 Speaking in Tongues (10:27) 5 Aerobatic (6:28) 6 Timewave Zero (21:08) X-103 - Atlantis (51:32) Pow Wow (PWD 7441) 1 Introduction (1:21) 2 Atlantis (The Entrance) (3:53) 3 Interlude A (1:31) 4 The Gardens (4:17) 5 Acropolis (4:06) 6 Hagia Triada (4:42) 7 Seduction Of Europa (1:08) 8 Temple Of Poseidon (4:57) 9 Minnia (The Queen's Theme) (6:36) 10 Eruption (1:11) 11 Interlude B (0:55) 12 Tephra (2:07) 13 10,000 Chariots (3:30) 14 Curse Of Gods (3:44) 15 Thera (4:29) 16 Magma (Technology) (3:03) Autechre - Incunabula (78:05) TVT Records (TVT 7210) 1 Kalpol Introl (3:18) 2 Bike (8:01) 3 Autriche (6:55) 4 Bronchus 2 (3:34) 5 Basscadet (5:24) 6 Eggshell (9:02) 7 Doctrine (7:48) 8 Maetl (6:33) 9 Windwind (11:18) 10 Lowride (7:15) 11 444 (8:55) Yet another addition to the growing list of Artificial Intelligence albums. Incunabula is the second best AI album so far (Black Dog still numero uno), and coming from me, that's saying a lot. The album starts out with a mellow, squishy intro, overlaid with some nice heavenly-sounding synths. Next is Bike, which is my second favorite track. Starts out light and airy, then a looooow bass kicks in, very cool. Autriche is ok, Bronchus 2 is weeeeeird (that's good though), chirps and bleeps dominate this track. Basscadet sounds a little too much like B12 stuff. Eggshell is a remix of The Egg, off of the AI comp, a little better, not much different. Doctrine is both hard and soft at the same time, good song. Maetl has a simple melody with some soft percussion, also good. Windwind is pretty ambient, almost no percussion, but very good for lying in bed with the headphones. Lowride sounds like a hip-hop track without the lyrics. 444, people, is unbelievable. There are very few songs that move my emotions as much as this one. I can't put a finger on it, but the multiple synthesizers just get to me in a great way. 8.5/10 If you like any of the previous AI albums, get this.
