This is a bit of a late reply to the acoustics thread from before, but I was just thinking of this yesterday. Somebody mentioned that notes actually seemed to change pitch depending on where the headphones were located; I think this is because most sounds have really messy shapes in frequency domain (in other words the sound of a violin isn't just one frequency but a large combination of frequencies and overtones). So when the position of the speaker or headphone changes you have a new configuration which tends to amplify or attenuate certain frequencies, and this seems to change the tones. This could be completely wrong, but you could also test it - by playing a pure tone (just a sine wave) through the headphones and moving them around, if my idea is right the loudness should change but the tone should not. regards, aronne Join 18 million Eudora users by signing up for a free Eudora Web-Mail account at http://www.eudoramail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
