Aphex Twin : Selected Ambient Works Volume II Well, after an interesting Astronomy lecture in which we did (among other things) Cosmic Strings (Brendan - take note) I finally managed to get home and play my much awaited 2CD set, not being DJ-conscious enough to buy the vinyl....but the poster does sound worthwhile! It's back to Xylem Tube for the lettering, with a photo of a well cool aphex on a wall which looks like it was hidden in a pyramid for the last 2000 years. The "textures" are small snapshots, the kind where you have to guess what it is as it's been taken close up or at a funny angle - ie one of them is down the middle of a radiator etc........but I digress! Fans of more ominous & brooding ambience like Blue Calx (included here) and Analogue Bubblebath 3 (the track from trance europe) will be in for a treat, as fully 50% of the album sounds like this. All the bass, hum, weird noises and dialogue from another dimension that you can handle - this is 2.5 hours worth of bliss. The best one for me has got to be the last track (24?) which RDJ played when he was on radio 1 : I think this should be the "cathedrals in space" one! I think this is worth a 10/10.(very TeePworthy!) Looking forward to all yer reviews folks, esp. Greg(303), Fluid & TeeP, plus that lost transmission from Cowley chap.(ta for the tape Mr N!) Ah well, back to boring old "Origin Of The Solar System"... bye!
