I agree completely - I think that the vast majority of what would be con- sidered IDM lacks the ability to make me feel anything. I don't know if this holds true for the rest of you (think about it, and post), but much of this music doesn't move me emotionally (or physically, since IDM's style seems to be typified by de-emphasized percussion). Don't get me wrong - I don't mean that the music should dictate any sort of 'emotion' to the listener (via sappy, cheesy, sad string melodies or any other shit like that), but should act in such a way that the listener is affected emotionally in some way or another (even if it's extremely subtle). I just think that the subject matter of the music should be bigger than that which was used to produce it, namely electronics and electronic musical instruments. I don't really want to hear music about electronics, know what I mean? Darshan

My point exactly. If the music is _too_ cerebral it`ll have trouble appealing to those who don`t create music themselves, let alone the masses. I think that in a few years the "novelty" of the technology will wear off and there`ll be a lot less tracks which are basically showing off the artists electronic wizardry. Look at mu-ziq for a start - they`ve got a pathetic amount of equipment but have produced a classic album, while a lot of artists have huge studios and sound mediocre.
