I just picked up this disc while visiting the fine city of Minneapolis. It is definitely interesting. It's a live recording of Terence McKenna doing spoken word over some ambient tracks. The subject matter, loosely, is spirituality (Terence McKenna has been billed as the 'New Timothy Leary'), he speaks on higher consciousness. There is lots of digeridoo, an aboriginal instrument that has a very trancey drone to it, apparently there was a real digeridoo musician at the rave where it all took place. All in all a good listening disc, if you are into spoken word (such as say William S. Burroughs + Disposable Heroes...), although Mr. McKenna's voice does tend to be a little on the nasal side. It would be a cool thing to run in a chill out room, as it is relaxing, but still contains high weirdness. The tracks that contain little/no McKenna are pretty danceable. This is all IMHO, of course. Neal.

Actually that would be Space TIme Continuum's CD Alien Dreamtime? i think its the same old archaic revival spew that the shamen had in re;evolution BUT he adds in a lot of DMT specific stuff and some speaking in tongues it has Space TIme Continuum doing the techno music and a digeriedoo player Space Time's stuff is really good and def worth checking out and def. is topic to this list although i couldnt do a decent review , dana

If you know his background and have read his books (most recently "Food of the Gods", "Archaic Revival", and "True Hallucinations", you know that he's an ethnobotanist who believes that psychedelic mushrooms played a major part in human evolution and that the DMT experience illuminates untold mysteries of the human mind and soul. The CD, which is a recording of several talks he gave at a SF rave last year, is half McKenna talking with backup music by Space Time Continuum, and half STC music. The speeches are McKenna 101, although nicely delivered (IHMO--a lot of people hate his vocal tone and delivery). He's really loopy, but he believes what he's doing. (My wife, looking over my shoulder, says I must write that she thinks he's 'out there' but enjoys his work anyhow.) The music is liquidy--future-housey, and again some people don't like it. I think STC's name is Jonah Sharp...he has a track on the From Here to TRanquility CD. From: ??? Date: ??? Subject: ??? Status: I'd like to hear what others think of it... best, stu 8)

If we get lucky maybe there will be a Terence McKenna/Judy Tenuta tour in the near future! :-) -- ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Howard Berkey howard@netcom.com "I saw my dad downtown and he said 'Son, how'd you get out of the closet?'" -Emo Phillips (or is it? :-)

i always thought that on "Alien Dreamtime" he sounded a lot like Jello Biafra with that nasal voice. His stories about his trips and the little men are pretty funny, but hardly profound. Jonathan eabu751@orion.oac.uci.edu

Ugh! puuuhleaze! emo phillips is so much groovier than McKenna! Putting TM on your record is like a guaranteed way to ruin even the best track. - Dan |=|=|=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=\=|=/=|=/=|=/=|=/=|=|=|=|-------------------------- The 8-BIt Collective - Transmission 23 - edrone dan nicholson, Clonor the Other - Finnish Techno Zyndicate 8bit@vlad.bowker.com -=>ICBM volume one available soon!<=- moddan@vlad.bowker.com "This message has been sent out - did you originate it?"
