Is Aphex limited?
I got the ON EP the other day. I didn't surprise me at all. My reaction when listening to new Aphex stuff used to be like "how come *I* never thought of making a track like that!". However, I've been listening to Polygon Window, SAW etc and now when I listened to the ON EP I just thought "hey, that sounds just like Aphex usually do". This is my point: A person/artist/producer doesn't seem godly to me if he can't alter his style enough to surprise me even a little. Ok, Mr James is quite original, but how do I know that he is a *brilliant* artist/producer? What if he is not able to do anything different from what he is doing? I mean, I've got friends, not very compatible with the concept of rhythm dare I say, who have made music that is absolutely stunning, just because they are not *able* to do anything else no matter how hard they would try. If Mr James would put out an ingenious hard-trance 12" he would certainly impress me, because then he would prove that he's not limited in his musical imagination at all and that he can do whatever music he likes to do... Btw, I liked track one and four on the EP even if I wasn't surprised with them. And I want to be amazed when I listen to new idm... Fredrik / RND
