My goodness, people. Richard James is just a person, like everyone else on this list. He has creative ideas, and he expresses them through music. We all have creative ideas which we express in music or other fashions. I personally don't care if he makes his own machines. I personally don't care if he's the nicest guy on earth. I personally don't care if he's got 300 albums stashed away with titles like 98.39900164582532201 on them. None of these facts/fictions will make me buy the albums unless I like them. I like them, so I buy them. I like them because they have an edge to them. They swim, they float, they drive, but they do it in a way that makes me sit up and go, "Wow!" I love "Quoth" with that unstoppable beat, that hollow sound, that pulsating rhythm. I also like "Analogue Bubblebath 3" with all the water sounds, the gurgling, the ambient textures. If you asked me, I'd tell you that I think he's excellent at what he does, and he does it in an area I like a lot already. He's among the cream of the crop, IMHO. But he's not God. Jack Dangers is. :-) No seriously folks, I wish more people would try to take music at face value. Regardless of all the extraneous twaddle, do you like the music? Why? Why not? Tell us. But don't tell me that Richard James is so cool that his dog is named 0.481673992, because that tells me nothing about the sounds emitted by the speakers. - Adam J Weitzman INDIVIDUAL, Inc. weitzman@individual.com

Yep, the music is cool, I think every one now knows my opinion there, but is there anything *wrong* with the Aphex Mystique? Hype or not, the Aphex Twin has a very cool underground image. The way he appeared on the scene, his eccentricities, his odd 'hideaway' live performances all add to this mystique. The fact that his music can be just so unbelievably mind fuckingly HARD, to the point of just sounding like static, yet *still* have rhythm, punch, dancability is just amazing. I still remember his live performance on radio 1 here in the UK, to millions of listeners, did he play his more listenable stuff, digeridoo etc? Did he fuck. He played a few still unreleased tracks (AFAIK) that were so hard or minimal that it left everyone wondering what was wrong with their radio. Now if that isn't cool what is. What is wrong with being different? Giving mad press interviews etc? Four words - Listen to the music. RDJ is a techno god. greg 3 0 3

Wow! someone else who actually thinks "Quoth" is one of his best tracks! Of course, the ignorant masses continue to say "anyone could do that" (but how many "Quoth" clones have you heard?..
