I've been buying some of their old records, mainly because it seemed so 'trendy' to namedrop Soft Machine as an influence last year. Everyone, from Liam Howlett to Ultramarine to Aphex Twin, mentioned them when I asked them about current favourites. The music is *so* weird though. It's too complicated for a simple guy like me. But at least anyone can trance out to the "Outbloodyrageous" intro. Speaking of simplicity, trance and machines, I was listening to Kraftwerk's "Man Machine" the other night, for the first time in ages. The record just sounds plain silly to me these days, but it struck me how incredibly trance-inducing the 2nd half of "Neon Lights" is. I hadn't thought of that before. Amazing. - chris@minsk.docs.uu.se

Silly? Ahem. . . blasphemy! ;) Seriously, while you're at it, take a fresh listen to Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" too. Incredibly trance-inducing. -- Petter Karlstrom cl2pkarl@cling.gu.se . . .Know Your Self. . .

Whey hey! I think we should all talk about Kraftwerk, at least twice a day, in homage to the origin of techno. "Computer World" is something no technohead should be without. Then all you have to do is get over the fact that it drives you mad trying to remember where you've heard it all sampled hundreds of times. greg 3 0 3

How many of us Kraftwerk junkies are there anyway? It's music so simple, yet so beyond its time. Is there are Kraftwerk mailing list? tfinn@crash.cts.com (Preferred) The Finn/ VLA

You can write to kraftwerk-request@cs.uwp.edu to join it. A rather low volume, high content list, quite fitting if you ask me. C. -- (Chris.Hilker) cspot@netcom.com
