attitude
I thought I sent my post to the entire list, but it doesn't seem to have appeared anywhere. ANYWAY, I feel kind of upset by the generalizations that "local, unknown" DJs have lots of bad attitude. Of all the DJs I've met only two really qualify as having bad attitude. One of them has a radio show and spins at and promotes a number of parties in the Northeastern US. The other is also well-known in the New England area of the US. Neither of these are "local unknowns." But two out of all the DJs I've ever met is a very small number. Not that all of them have been completely warm and friendly either, but hey, some people are a little jerky. Overall, to say there's a lot of bad attitude among DJs, though, seems to be unsubstantiated in my experience. And I've never met anyone who truly believed that the DJ wrote the music that appears on one of their mix tapes. Laura (a sensitive kind o' gal)

Well, rarely, once in a while, miscommunications/misunderstandings happen and one DJ might say "I made this" to a friend, instead of "I made this mix." This happened to me once while playing a tape in a friend's car just after I bought a bunch of new gear. But this isn't what Taylor meant. I think he meant that DJ's get more praise for playing songs/tracks than do artists for making them. I think this just has to do with the sole fact of UNAVAILABILITY of the artists; i.e., DJ's are pretty much more accessible than artists. -djkc as for me, I'm a "no-name" DJ...never really've been paid for gigs or clubs, though I've spun many a time at parties & big clubs (well, this is Houston - and Austin - so not THAT big) with permission of DJ friends. My heart's discovery of trAHHnce music is a great feeling...one I have not had in a long time. This music is screaming to get out on the dance floor... but, this is Houston...*sigh* Though, friends and I are thinking of a Club venture...soon as we find a cheap place (monetarily cheap, that is!) but, back to the point of 'tude, as a DJ I don't have that elitist attitude like a lot of Houston techno DJ's, and I know cause they're friends (or acquaintances atleast).
