Can anybody tell me their opinions on Slowdive? I've passed over Souvlaki in the stores so many times and have been told very little about the album or their music. I'm looking for something interesting to add to my collection and was wondering if this is it. Is it anything like One Dove or St. Etienne? I'm sooo curious. HELP ME!! Thanks a bunch! Hugh

slowdive are wonderfully wonderful pedalgazers..or shoegazers, depending on how you look at it. their music is guitar based, though i do believe their latest eps are going for a more ambient techno sound. brian eno lends a hand on two tracks of 'souvlaki'... * Kelli-Jeanne * 'I think what we do is an acoustic version of house music.' - Warren Defever

Hi Kelli! Didn't know you were on here too. Anyway, I second her description, and say that for the most part it's not so much intelligent dance music as intelligent swoon music. Not very St. Etienne like, to take up a question from the original poster, but One Dove's atmospherics do present something of a parallel. My two favorite releases by them are the "Slowdive" and "Holding Our Breath" EPs; "Avalyn II", on the former, is in my mind the ultimate guitar/ambient track.

I saw Slowdive with Ride in Santa Cruz at the Catalyst a while back. I would recommend seeing them in concert. I had never heard them before the concert and they blew me away. I still haven't got their album(s) or any singles but they are on my list. I don't know what they are sounding like now but they were very Manchester sound at the time I saw them. (Hey new Stone Roses album in March does any one out there love them if you do send a personal post so we can talk) The Cloud Factory ---l---o---v--------------e--------------------------------------

Slowdive are the absolute swooniest! As for as ethereal guitar rock bands go i'd say they are one of the best. If you like this stuff you might also like stuff by main (hydra calm is great), loop, spacemen 3 (going back a few years) or even moose (perhaps not but they are excellent none the less). It's not exactly the same stuff but some of these bands, to me at least, have the same feel. karl
