My my, what a lot of controversy there is about Warp. Just to add fuel to the fire, let me throw in some news about the label's next releases. Two albums are due in the new year, one by Kenny Larkin, the other by Richard Kirk (ex-Cab.Volt., ex-Sweet Exorcist, aka Sandoz). They have just got to the test pressing stage. I believe they will precede AI2. A 12" called "Megadrive" by Circle City is also due out soon. This is very much in the style of "Resoraz" by Art of Time, and was originally on a white label out of Leeds (about two months ago). I'm told that the Warp version hasn't reached test pressing yet, although it was originally slated to appear in the shops yesterday (6th Dec). Beaumont Hannant - "Basic Data Manipulation" (on GPR) did finally come out yesterday, several months after the promised date. It is quite experimental: not particularly dance-floor material I'd say. If anyone writes a full review (favorable or not!), I'll be happy to pass on a copy to Beau. -malc.

Some of you may be interested to know that there is an excellent article on Warp Records, with an interview of Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett, in this month's MT magazine. Just to confirm their plans for next year, here is a cut from the article: "Warp have set themselves a busy schedule for early '94. January will see the release of the Aphex Twin triple LP - Selected Ambient Works II - and an album and single from Detroit techno veteran Kenny Larkin, to be followed in February by the Artificial Intelligence 2 album and an LP from Cabaret Voltaire's Richard Kirk. Album releases are also planned from, among others, Black Dog, B12, LFO and Nightmares On Wax. In addition, Rob and Steve have set up a new video label with computer graphics artist Phil Wolstenholme, who Warp aficionados will know has designed some of the label's album covers in the past. The video label's first release, due March/April, will be a video version of the Artificial Intelligence 2 album." If you find this interesting, then I recommend you get hold of a copy of MT to read the full article, which tells us a lot more about Warp. Making the T, Steve B. Just received WARP's latest mail-out newsletter (well a one sided photocopy ,but that's not all you get :-) Some of this is not new news (as it were), but I'll transcribe the major details anyway: August 7th - Ultradyne - E Coli 12" (makes it sound like there isn't a CD available - anyone know?) August 14th - Aphex Twin - Donkey Rhubarb (inc the Philip Glass orchestration of Icct Hedral) buy buy buy - this is an excellent EP!! Enclosed was a free sticker for Donkey Rhubarb - a repeat pattern of the mouth of the "I care" sleeve painting. Ugh. August 29th - Elecktroids - Elektro World LP Note the above spelling is definitive and correct, there is a C in the act's name but not the LP title, this is borne out by a promo postcard enclosed with the letter. September 25th - Nightmares on Wax - Smoker's Delight And they threw in a couple of stickers for this too :-) October 3rd - Autechre - Anvil Vapre described as a Double 12", acoompanied by a short film promo from "young director Chris Cunningham (aka Halls)" The single will be followed by there third Album, it says here. Yes! **** LIVE DATE FOR UK PEEPS **** 13th October - Aphex Twin plays at the Southbank Centre, London ******************************** "Things to come soon from" Plaid, B12, Disjecta, and Autechre UK Tour "Things to come later from" LFO (surprise) OK guys, that's it. Yes, this is available on CD. I listened to it at my local Cleveland record store yesterday. It sounds quite similar to Drexcia's "The Journey Home" to me, but I'm not too fimilar with electro, so my opinion shouldn't hold too much weight on this one. -->-Lance--- mclance@ix.netcom.com
