OEUVRE LABEL, “ELECTRONIC LISTENING MUSIC Vol I – Various
Artists” RELEASE DATE: 31st August 2009-06-29
Hailing from Nottingham, emerging
experimental label Oeuvre is
releasing its debut album, Electronic
Listening Music Vol I on the 31st August
2009.
Paying homage to the originators of the genre, Warp Records, the
album leaves no aspect of electronic music unexplored. Deranged acid bass lines
accompany heavy hitting breaks and pulsating drum machine workouts, elegant
glitch and frenetic jungle mash-ups. Haunting soundscapes and introspective
industrial meditations jockey for position with killer cuts of classic
braindance and brooding Ninja Tunes style trip hop… all in one slick,
recession-busting package.
Five full tracks are available to stream at…

… where you will also find a free CD QUALITY promotional
download and details of upcoming events.
Oeuvre was formed in 2008 in
reaction to the state of the UK electronic music
scene and out of an unwavering desire to discover and promote high quality
acid, electronica, braindance and techno.
“We saw a massive gap in the music market that as far as we
could see, people were not really attempting to fill,” says co founder Alex
Kennedy, “There is the occasional acid or classic IDM sounding record being
released at the moment, but there’s not really enough of it to sustain and grow
the scene. We saw, in the mid nineties, the heyday of quality electronic music…
that electronica could be as thoughtful and challenging an art form as any
other that preceded it. Like the auteurs of French New Wave cinema, we want to liberate
our work from of the narrow confines of commercialism and redefine it in the
public eye as a powerful, relevant art form… I feel that the polemic Les Politique D’Auteurs by Francois
Truffaut is as applicable to music as it was and is to film.”
“Modern dance music is seen by many as catering to the lowest
common denominator in order to fill clubs and dance floors. It is our mission
at Oeuvre to change that, by
continuing to elevate the form.
Mindless noise and copy cat producers (especially prevalent in
Dubstep and Breakcore) cause the market to stagnate both at the level of
production and club promotion, making it difficult for people who have a unique
vision to make their mark. People now in their mid-to-late teens, who never
heard Aphex or Muziq at the height of their talents, equate electronica with the
hard hitting sounds of Dubstep and Breakcore, often dismissing lighter, more
melodic work such as Aphex Twin’s Fingerbib as pussy weak, dry, or even
flowery!”
Obviously, this is not the case… and over the next few years we
intend to prove it.
