OVRO : Revisited CD / MP3
http://www.someplaceelse.net/releases/?id=spe047
The wondergirl of Finnish dark ambient soundscapes is back with a new
album. Revisited is based on field recordings made during Ovro’s tour in
Russia in 2006, subsequently processed and treated in the studio.
Revisited is a powerful aural travelogue. It will lull the listener to a
state of receptive trance, and then starts working on the subconscious
mind. Let yourself go, lose yourself in the sound, expect lucid dreams,
out-of-body experiences, alien apparitions and a shower of sound
massaging your body throughout.
CD version is packed in beautiful 4-panel digisleeve. Edition of 1000
copies. MP3 version is LAME-encoded 192-320kbps (best quality) and
includes PDF booklet.

Revisited is loosely related to Estraier, a 2006 EP of which only a
handful of copies were given out. Compared to Estraier, Revisited is
extended, mutated and more elaborate throughout. While the beginning is
similar, the paths taken turn out somewhat different and thus the
outcome is all new. Written about Estraier : “amazingly gorgeous,
restrainedly beautiful ambient ... cracks, noises and clangs ... a
floating soundscape with vocals like seagulls ... rustling, backward
sounds and clanging ... hollow but hypnotic ... This is a highly
impressive whole”

Biography
Surreal music, subterranian soundscapes. Dormant volcanoes coming to
life. Scratches, crackles and human voice put through alchemy of sound.
Bass abuse. Church bells conjured out of the sound of breathing. Odd
evo/invocative lyrics. Hauntingly disturbing atmospheres, subconscious
landscapes.
About mid April 2003 Ovro sat down at her computer armed with a couple
of basic wave editors, a cheap malfunctioning mic and her voice, and set
out to show she couldn’t make music. The result of this endeavour, her
debut album Malice in Underland, was released by Some Place Else late
2003. From these minimalistic beginnings – in experience, equipment,
approach and soundscapes – has grown an interesting and able sound
artist, exploring the ragged edges and murky undercurrents of reality.
Ovro’s second studio album, late 2005’s dark ambient / cinematic
soundscaping / aural pathworking piece Gegendurchgangenzeit, is a
critically acclaimed work gaining praise and reports on causing weird,
wonderful and scary mental imagery.
Her third studio release appeared on the market in late 2006 and is a
double EP on one CD, Mosaick the Serpent / Vipera Aurea. On this album,
Ovro is again creating disturbing, distressing and at times downright
scary atmospheres, spiced with her kind of humour and echoing her
magico-religious view of the world. The album also features guest
performances by Massimo (Black Sun Productions), Niko Skorpio and
Mockingwyrd.
The fourth album Revisited is released on Some Place Else in August
2008. Forthcoming from Ovro are a 7” on Drone Records, and the next
album scheduled for spring 2009. Ovro also performs and records as
Haeretici 7o74 with Niko Skorpio.

Niko Skorpio : Half Born in Half Light CD / MP3
http://www.someplaceelse.net/releases/?id=spe049
Half Born in Half Light is based on the foundations of psychedelic
ambient soundscapes and darkly majestic bass drone, over which tribal
rhythms and magickal vocal invocations build grotesque alien monoliths
whose angles mock the euclidean mathematics of conventional composition.
Niko Skorpio is not restricted to one particular genre, but draws on
many sources. This makes the music colourful and diverse, yet it remains
coherent and has the artist’s unique fingerprints all over (this time
literally in the cover as well). If we are to give it a label, let’s
call it Hermetic Fusion Musick.
CD version comes with gorgeously designed 12-panel leaflet with art,
photos, liner notes etc. Edition of 1000 copies. MP3 version is
LAME-encoded 192-320kbps (best quality) and includes PDF booklet.

Early impressions from Heathen Harvest webzine:
“The music on here is stunningly superb ... the pieces on here range
from drone feedback to environmental ambient ... rumbling and soaring
drone augmented with slabs of high-pitched feedback ... a sonorous and
hellish gravelly voice ... certainly attempts to burrow its way into
your head; atmospherically it’s flavoured with more than a pinch of
menace and the stench of Tartarus ... meditative in a bizarre kind of
way ... manages to get the hairs standing on the back of my neck ...
voices, bell-tones and odd burps create an eerie sense of soiled
divinity ... a colony of lost and ostracised souls the only congregation
willing to embrace a tainted holiness ... placeless environmental sounds
clanging, creaking, shuffling and thumping in some non-specific space
accompanied by an otherworldly spacey whistle and breathy keyboards,
meant to suggest somewhere timeless and dimensionless ... a dark
undercurrent of uneasiness and menace which transmits a spine-tingling
nervousness and a frisson of fear through the listener. Delicious stuff
indeed. This is affecting music that seeps into your body and gets
absorbed by and affects every cell.”
