Highpoint Lowlife newsletter, June 2008 hello there! Quite a stack of news this month, from London and Bristol release gigs going on, 12" heavyweight vinyl, and webreleases! * * * * * * * * [hpll027] - Funckarma - Dubstoned EP1 Currently being pressed and due back with me in about two weeks time. Roel Funcken went along to the laquer cut and says it was sounding amazing! 180g vinyl with five tracks of evil instrumental hip hop with a hefty dubstep influence to it. Its not a million miles away from their previous output as Shadow Huntaz on Skam records: heavily bass-laden, head-nodding grooves with some severely twisted synth lines. We have an mp3 taster you can grab from: http://highpointlowlife.com/downloads/funckarma_dubsnippet.mp3 it's sorta like a megamix of their dubstoned tracks from this EP1 plus future releases too. RELEASE PARTY! We're hosting two UK release parties for the record, one in London and one in Bristol. Both shows will feature Funckarma and Fisk Industries, and we also have Ikonika playing at the London show. I have *hopefully* got a very special guest lined up for the Bristol show, which i'm just waiting on confirmation on at the moment - keep checking the highpointlowlife.com website for more details. June 25th - Plastic People, London June 27th - The Cube Cinema, Bristol The record is now available for pre-order on our site at: http://highpointlowlife.com/releaseinfo.php?id=27 Buy tickets for the London show from: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/30296 * * * * * * * * [hpw031] Fisk Industries - Magnetic Fisk Remixes Just uploaded a new downloadable free web release today - three remixes of Fisk Industries tracks from the recent "Magnetism.." release. One deconstructed synth-laden rebuild by Brassica, and two complete dissassemblies from Yard! Download it from: http://highpointlowlife.com/downloads.php * * * * * * * * [hpll026] Magnetism, That Electricity.. These have been moving really fast, down to just over a hundred copies left. Now available in most good stores - Rough Trade, Phonica, Rubadub, Boomkat plus all your usual download stores. We've had a load of ace reviews coming in: "The seventy-five minute release exemplifies Highpoint Lowlife's customary attention to detail (optical illusions printed on the discs can be viewed when they're playing) plus the sequencing's well-considered too (e.g., following Ranson's song-like pieces with Law's epic). It would be no exaggeration to characterize Magnetism, That Electricity as one of the most solid electronic-oriented releases to appear in some time and a stronger argument for Highpoint Lowlife's distinctive corner of the musical universe would also be hard to find." Textura.org "While the label encourages people to "upload, share and play" their music wherever and whenever, it is the dedication to such brilliantly packaged, special edition releases that earns the kudos here. This particular 12" double vinyl release certainly looks the part, while its eclectic content turns the label compilation concept on its head. Choosing to showcase four of their artists, each band is given one side of vinyl each to impress, which goes a long way more than the standard single track, found on most other collective releases. What's more, all four bands here offer up fresh, unreleased material increasing the value for money stakes tenfold." Angry Ape "Magnetism, That Electricity demonstrates the wide angled approach of Highpoint Lowlife and its utterly modern vision. With only three hundred copies of this double EP pressed on vinyl and a hundred CDRs, this is yet again a released that should be snapped up before it's gone for ever." The Milk Factory "The production values and level of attention to detail hark back to the industrious post-punk independent labels of the late Seventies/early Eighties." Straight No Chase If you want to buy a copy direct from us, grab it from: http://highpointlowlife.com/releaseinfo.php?id=26 * * * * * * * * Aiight! if you're in the neighbourhood, get yerself along to one of the release parties - i've got a feeling these are gonna be legendary! And as always check out our blog at http://highpointlowlife.com/blog/blog.php for updates, downloads, reviews, mixes and general blether. thanks! thor --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
