Global Goon - Cradle of history (rephlex cat 58cd) wow! this album is incredible! i cant believe that the focus of the techno world hasnt been turned towards this talented 'goon'.His tracks are so unique, his style so broad and warm! I might well be gushing, but to find music like this is a revelation. Twenty or so high quality tracks (a couple of duff ones, in there for fun i suppose). I really feel like im getting inside this guys mind when i listen to tracks like funkydrunk, dx oh god i might as well list them all. Anyway i should try to describe some of the tracks: funkydrunk runs a cosmic melody against a james brown style beat, haunting ambience with a well structured verse/chorus pattern. I like listening to this when im sitting under my tree, it bring me close to tears. dx is a madcap dance trip with another cosmic melody (straight from the tongue of an angel) people compare goon to aphex twin, personally i cant see the similarity, i think the goon is 'out there' and he's inviting you over for a cup of tea, take it while you can... 10/10 john.

Thankyou Mr mailman. You (and rephlex) have made my day yet again. Just when you thought that rephlex were on the down, up pops this little cracker. Cradle of history is raw, beautiful, funny, sad all in one neat little package. i havent had so much fun since i heard the cats in the shower (goon). most tracks are good, but the ones which really do it for me are: * afterlife (a lovely summer bird song) * dH - a danceable 80's sounding electro kraftwork track * funkydrunk (this is incredible, weird and truly heart warming) ive heard some people slating the goon, saying his style is to close to rdj, well it is similar, but it also stands out alone in the techno world for not really fitting in to any category we try to shove it in. i dont know what hes up to at this moment but i cant wait to hear more music from him. p.a.t.m. wap100
