hi
my 2 cents on the subject.
Really nice to read these reactions. I am so p...ed with all these
new ideas regarding FREE music.
Musicians as artists or everyone in this field dose work as anyone to
make a living. We have to fight against a world where artist haber to
do it in their spare times, as they would need a primary job to pay
the bills.
I am producing records, and will go on,. CDs are now seen, even by
artist, as a promo tools. Sales are lower and lower. In the near
future, ORAL will concentrate on collision between art forms, vinyls
and DVd audio. Limited edition is our future - i remember a time
where this adjective was so negative, everyone complaining about
elitism - but nowadays here we are : there is no need to work for the
masses, they all have their i and they don't give a s...t about the
quality of the music. (Only interest for an artist : no more needs of
mastering and all these things !!!! They dont' care )
I recently got a contract with a major online distr. for my whole
catalog, i had to do it but hated to do it - just some hope to pay
once the artists with whom i work diversifying the outputs - BUT i
don't trust it at all ! Most of the labels i know dealing with
experimental music which are on pay downloads don't get so far any
attention of the IPod lovers....This genre of music is expected to be
free, and Net Labels are giving words to the ones who wants the music
to be free !
ORAL will still do the work and i will for sure keep a serious mind,
buying 30 to 50 records a month...
Note: while i am just thinking i never listened twice to any of the
Net Labels Mp3s i downloaded, a friend of mine told me he "owns" 14
000 records he downloaded for free . The idea made me laughing and..
furious at the same time...
